Blaise Veterinary Referral Centre
Up to £34,000pa DOE plus benefits and up to £5000 relocation allowance
As the opening date for our new purpose-built hospital, Blaise Veterinary Referral Centre, approaches, we are delighted to now be accepting applications for two experienced Anaesthesia Nurses to join our team.
This is a clinical role within the anaesthesia team, reporting to the Clinical Team Leader. The successful candidate will work primarily within the shift times of 07:00-20:00 from Monday-Friday with on-call cover for the neurology service required- a 5 or 4 day working week will be considered.

Blaise Veterinary Referral Centre is our first Multidisciplinary Specialist Referral Site that we have built from the ground up. This creates a unique opportunity for you to be a part of our journey from the very beginning. Situated in Longbridge, Birmingham, it is set to be one of the largest, multi-disciplinary referral hospitals in the UK and will have the capacity to treat up to 10,000 pets per year.
Sustainability has been a key priority for us, and we have included several green and wellbeing initiatives in the hospital in line with our Positive Pawprint strategy across the group. The hospital will be one of the largest in the UK at over 36,000 sq ft, with the capacity to treat up to 10,000 pets per year. From the site we will provide specialist led multi-discipline veterinary referrals and a 24-hour emergency care service for pet owners across the Midlands. The site has easy access from the A38 through Longbridge and is part of the West Longbridge regeneration project. The site has been designed to ensure that an open plan collegiate working environment is created to support the positive and supportive culture that is integral to us.

The Anaesthesia team will provide support to all referral services within the hospital, including surgery, medicine and ECC. The anaesthesia nurse will be involved in all day to day activities of this service supported by anaesthetists and the Clinical Team Leader. Anaesthesia nurses will be expected to work to a high standard, adopting an open and supportive team approach and using excellent communication skills.
Duties will include…
Delivering the planned care to a very high standard and in accordance with the schedule.
Anaesthetic patient monitoring including use of a multiparameter monitor.
Performing advanced nursing interventions such as central line care, blood product transfusion or arterial blood sampling.
Supporting minor procedures in ECC patients such as thoracic drain placement and using CRIs under direction.
Communicating clearly and in a timely manner with the anaesthetists and specialists about the patient progress and any concerns.
With the support of the surgery ACA maintaining the anaesthesia room and prep rooms, caring for the specialist equipment used by the service.
Relevant experience and personal attributes:
You must be a Registered Veterinary Nurse with a strong interest in anaesthesia.
A relevant qualification in anaesthesia would be desirable but is not essential.
A keen interest in working towards clinical excellence in anaesthesia is a must.
Previous experience in a Referral Hospital is strongly desirable, and you must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical knowledge and practical competence.

Working pattern
Shifts will vary between hours of 07:00 and 20:00 Monday - Friday. You will be expected to take part in the Neurology service on-call rota. A 5 or 4 day working week will be considered, as will part time applications.
