Organisation: Leicestershire County CouncilWork Location: Mountsorrel, Hawcliffe Road, Mountsorrel, Leicestershire LE12 7AHWorker Category: Field Based Worker Salary: £23,898 - £28,776 per annumWorking Hours: Full Time, 37 Hours per week Contract Type: Fixed term for 24 months.Closing Date: Wednesday 18th September 2024Interview Date(s): TBC [in person]About the RoleAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Forestry Tree Surgeon to develop skills and abilities while working as part of a team that is an Arboricultural Association ARB Approved contractor, helping to deliver a best value, customer-focussed service throughout Leicestershire and occasionally, surrounding counties. During the apprentice programme, you will help provide a comprehensive and professional arboriculture service for all trees under the jurisdiction of Leicestershire County Council, and other clients in the private sector in the County of Leicestershire and surrounding counties.Activities & skills development include tree surgery and felling, planting and maintenance, hedge layering and planting schemes.You will be required to attend, from time to time additional training courses, conferences, seminars, or other meetings as required, which may include day release for Training to attain formal qualification.The nature of the work may involve the jobholder carrying out activities outside of normal working hours, including night, weekends and public holidays, in all weather conditions to meet the needs of the service.This role is a “Safety Critical Post” and, consequently, subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with our policies and procedures. Be willing to develop own skills, knowledge and experience & have a flexible approach to changing work tasks Experience of working as part of a team & good communications skills and have an understanding of the principles of customer care. Relevant practical experience, especially of groundsmen duties, woodchopping, grounds maintenance. Numeracy and literacy skills sufficient to be able to read plans, measure completed work and to keep accurate reports on works carried out. A good Attendance Record and be willing and able to travel to the training facilities or other work-based sites.
