The role

This is an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Surveyor to join a team offering an opportunity to develop, grow and progress organically. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years' experience in the construction industry, preferably having worked on retail, refurb or cut and carve projects. Candidates must be highly motivated, resilient, and determined to 'get things right'. The Quantity Surveyor would be responsible for managing the delivery and governance of commercial services across a multi-location contract. They will regularly price work ensuring target costs are met, review contractual agreements with our contractors, handle commercial management issues and engage with the end client directly. Projects will see you in the retail world, ranging from refurb, newbuild, cut and carve and fitout.

Key accountabilities

Here are just a few of the things you can expect to get up to.

  • To support the Surveyor and project team in providing monthly reports to the Customer, ensuring that such reports contain accurate forecasts of our rolling final account, full information concerning variations and a record of contractual notices.
  • Assist in all bidding and tender processes during relevant stages of pre-development and that correct forms are completed and issued.
  • To engage with the wider project team to ensure consistent delivery of successful projects in order to support the achievement of Company objectives.
  • To undertake regular site visits and assist the project team in preparing comprehensive reports for internal monthly project reviews to demonstrate project and team performance.
  • To assist in managing project set up and ensure any pre-contract expenditure does not exceed any authority limit, such as the customer letter of instruction.
  • To support the Commercial Manager and project team to ensure that all significant project issues and correspondence and necessary contractual processes have been observed and acted upon to protect the Company's position.
  • To assist in maintaining the cash forecasting system on an accurate and timely basis ensuring that the cash position of the project is maximised without compromising contractual arrangements and relationships.
  • To assist in managing all cost control aspects of the project(s), ensuring the use of appropriate cost, reporting systems.

  • To ensure our HSQE and quality standards, operating processes, company policies, ISO accreditations and all legislative requirements are understood, implemented and adhered to at all times.


Skills & experience

  • Exposure to the construction industry
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Word and Excel packages
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be passionate about work, committed to excellence and continuous improvement both on personal and divisional level with a proven record of delivering results.
  • Must be able to build trust and confidence through open communications and informing colleagues about issues that will affect their role.
  • Must be organised and prioritise own work to deliver on time through managing time and delegating effectively and have a high level of attention to detail
  • Must be able to participate, share knowledge and actively support colleagues.
