Job Description

This Big 4 Firm is looking for an Associate Director, Credit & Restructuring Tax in London.

The Credit & Restructuring Tax Team is a fast-growing team that provides market-leading expertise to a range of clients across a variety of situations.

This firm are looking for Associate Directors to work on a wide range of transactions, advising funds, institutional investors and borrowers undertaking transactions in the credit and restructuring markets. These can range from lending and borrowing, or buying and selling debt, to rescuing over-leveraged businesses and supporting key stakeholders, and building long term relationships with those businesses and stakeholders as they recover and grow through further transactions.

Credit and restructuring transactions cover a broad range of interesting situations. Macroeconomic factors are currently fuelling a material increase in activity in this area, but it is also a key part of the market at any stage of the cycle, directing and redirecting financing to where it's most needed, to support growth. These transactions are varied and bespoke, involving UK and cross-border structuring advice.

This team comprises a diverse group of inquisitive, professionals who thrive on collaborating with clients to understand their commercial goals and supporting them with a range of varied, valued and challenging services to help them achieve their goals.

As a transactions focused team, we work closely and collaborate with their M&A and Real Estate tax teams, as well as other specialist teams and other service lines, to provide joined-up comprehensive solutions to their clients.

You will be an integral member of the team, managing a portfolio of high profile clients and projects, developing and leading your own client relationships and developing more junior team members. You will be working alongside partners and directors in client teams as well as within wider global project teams.

This firm takes your development seriously. You'll benefit from continuous training and a transparent, interactive appraisal process. You'll be empowered to manage your own workload and achieve career goals that you set yourself, in a team with a clear overarching strategy and a proven track record for strong progression.

Your role

In this team, your role in the group would encompass some or all of the following:

  • Advising on a broad array of tax issues across a range of transactions and situations.
  • Managing and developing key relationships with clients, other members of the Credit & Restructuring team, and the firms wider network of tax and non-tax specialists.
  • Managing diverse teams (including from the firms member firms) within an inclusive and collaborative team culture, where people are recognised for their contribution.
  • Contributing to the eminence of our team within the firms wider tax practice and in the market through knowledge sharing and thought leadership.
  • Contributing to the growth and success of the team by supporting the professional development of the junior team members.

Your work, your choice

This firm believes the best impact is the value we add, not the hours you sit at your desk. They will carefully consider agile ways of working, both formal and informal, that allow for the best impact for their people and their clients. Please speak to your recruiter about the working pattern that works best for you.

Location: The team is based in London and Manchester, with occasional domestic and international travel. We would also consider candidates based elsewhere in the UK, provided they are willing to travel on a regular basis.

Your professional experience

  • Experience and / or knowledge of any of private equity, credit or real estate funds and how they negotiate and invest would be preferred but not necessarily essential
  • A good appreciation of tax law and practice with strong attention to detail
  • Preferably qualified ACA or ATT / CTA or equivalent qualification and experience, or legal background
  • Ability to build strong relationships and articulate complex ideas in a pragmatic and commercial way
  • A team player that takes ownership of projects, uses initiative to resolve problems and works well under pressure, with the ability to adapt to change rapidly and respond to clients appropriately
