About Us
IHS Markit Upstream Oil & Gas Consulting team is looking for an Associate Director/Director to lead consulting business development and project delivery with focus on the African continent. The successful candidate will be a member of the global Upstream consulting team, reporting to the London-based head of Upstream Consulting for Europe, CIS and Africa region.
Your Role
Identify and qualify both untapped and existing marketplace consulting opportunities, with a particular focus on African clients. Clients can include oil and gas producing and operating companies, NOCs, governments, petroleum regulating authorities, investors, technology and oil field services companies.
Develop, write and deliver consulting proposals to prospective clients.
Contribute to consulting project delivery as a subject matter expert on one or more upstream-related topics (e.g. subsurface, production management, petroleum economics, engineering, costs).
Lead execution of large complex consulting projects (in coordination with project executive) ensuring client satisfaction and project profitability.
Develop strategies and methodologies for project execution.
Collaborate with the global Upstream consulting team and other IHS Markit Energy groups to leverage in-house content/capabilities and develop consulting solutions for clients.
Build and maintain a network of high-level customer contacts.
Coach and share knowledge with project members and junior colleagues.
About You
Knowledge and skills:
The candidate must have the following skills and demonstrate the following behaviors:
Excellent knowledge of the oil and gas exploration and production business, with strong understanding of value drivers, challenges and opportunities specific to Africa.
Strong fundamental understanding of energy markets and energy value chain.
Consulting experience required in one or several of the following areas:
Upstream oil and gas exploration and production
Upstream data analytics
M&A transaction and valuation support
Demonstrable track record of business development for consulting business, writing and pitching proposals, managing teams, budgets and engagements with clients, acquired in a consulting firm, strategy house, or a corporate strategy / M&A / business development team in an organization within the energy industry.
Be recognized internally and/or externally as a subject matter expert in one or more energy industry segments and/or subjects.
Personality and confidence to build strong relationships at all levels – both internally and externally.
Strong analytical skills and ability to pull together complex multi-strand analysis into broad trends and insights, and relate these to the critical issues facing the client.
Strong influencing skills, with ability to communicate complex concepts and persuade senior executives to adjust their view or adopt a different point of view.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to facilitate personable interface at multiple levels within a client’s organization and with IHS Markit consultants, researchers, and sales colleagues internationally.
Self-starter with strong work ethic.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and efficiently in a team-oriented environment with cross-discipline team members located in different locations and time zones, ability to succeed in a complex matrix organization.
Excellent working knowledge of MS Office, in particular PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
Prior experience with and knowledge of IHS Markit tools, products and offerings is preferred.
Desired qualifications (experience and education):
10+ years of experience in the upstream oil and gas industry or in a management consultancy (preferably in an advisory role to energy clients)
Relevant degree in a technical (e.g., geosciences or engineering) or commercial / financial discipline. Master’s degree is preferred.
Proficiency in the English language. Oral and written proficiency in French and/or Portuguese is a bonus.
