The Role
We are seeking a Night Veterinary Surgeon to join our team here at Portland House Vets, Retford. You will cover our out of hours service for small animal and farm animal (would consider small animal only). Working on a week on week off basis.

Our OOH service operates: 6pm - 8.30am Monday to Friday and on a weekend from 12pm Saturday until 8.30am Monday.
OOH Calls are triaged by the on-call nurse who will then contact the on-call. We offer flexible working patterns that flex with you and your lifestyle. Salary
The salary for this role is up to £63,000 depending on experience.
About Us
Portland House Veterinary Group has been working in partnership with clients in and around the Retford area in one form or another for over 50 years. From Retford we provide services for farm and small animal clients as well as wildlife parks and equine clients. We pride ourselves in providing excellent patient, client, and employee care. We are well equipped with an ultrasound with Doppler and ECG, digital DR Xray, dental Xray, video endoscopy and full internal lab. We believe strongly in delivering exceptional service and care to our clients and their pets. Our Farm services include ultrasound scanning, bull and ram fertility, pelvic scoring, lambing club, client education meetings. We also have VetIMPRESS tablets that provide an electronic data management system to use on farms.
About the Team and Culture
Portland House Veterinary Group consists of 13 vets (with a certificate holder in small animal medicine) and 10 RVNs/2 SVNs with experience ranging from new graduates to 29 years. We also have a fantastic team of support staff. We are a welcoming and friendly team who are enthusiastic and dedicated to working together as a team. You’ll always have access to a dedicated mental health first aider. We’re a very social bunch! The team regularly meets up outside of work.
We have regular pub quizzes, our annual summer BBQ, some of the team participates in the Tough Mudder event as well! We believe strongly in delivering exceptional service and care to our clients and their pets.
Applicant Requirements
We are looking for an experienced, friendly, and enthusiastic vet who is comfortable with sole charge. You will be skilled at communicating with clients and colleagues and share our passion for excellent client and patient care. Responsibilities include seeing urgent and emergency cases out of hours as well as the further work up and care of the inpatients overnight.
You will be confident in dealing with OOH emergencies and critical care cases. Farm emergency procedures will include lambing, calving, caesarean, prolapse, down cow.
