We are Gradient Labs — a new AI company based in London, UK. Gradient Labs was founded in June 2023 by Dimitri Masin , Danai Antoniou , and Neal Lathia ; we are technical founders who met at Monzo Bank — where, over the last 4-7 years, we built all things data and ML across different parts of the company. We have closed seed funding from a range of fantastic investors and angels and are currently building our first product with a handful of big name enterprise design partners whose services you are likely using on a daily basis. We are a small, but growing team, who come from companies like Monzo, Hashicorp, Google, Revolut, and Geckoboard. We’re building AI systems that can act like humans Gradient Labs is on a mission to redefine customer support for the next decade. We are building a suite of LLM-based autonomous agents that can safely automate customer support queries in complex and higher-risk environments, and give companies visibility & control over the outcomes the agent achieves. Our tech stack We choose technology that enables us to build resilient systems and iterate on them quickly. This includes a blend of "boring" familiar tools like Go and PostgreSQL, and some calculated bets like Temporal and Encore . Our backend is deployed to Google Cloud Platform. Our frontend is build with Next.js and deployed to Vercel . We currently use LLMs from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Cohere but are planning to expand to a blend of models in the future. As a Backend Engineer, you will… Have the opportunity to contribute to an “operating system” for future AI agents which is safe, scalable and allows us improve the capabilities of those agents faster than any other company out there. Build resilient and observable systems that deliver great user experiences in the face of failures, retry storms, resource starvation, and other turbulent conditions. Ship early and often. Questions What is the salary? The final compensation will depend on the relevant skills and experience of the candidate but generally we pay within top 10% of comparable roles at seed stage startups.
