Our Manufacturing Centre of Excellence, located in Montrose have recently identified a need to fill its talent pipeline, by creating a number of Apprentice positions.
During your 4-year Apprenticeship, you will attend the Angus Training Group (Arbroath) full time, for the first year, where you will complete the SVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations. Additionally, you will attend a College of Further Education on a part time basis where you will complete either an NC (SCQF Level 6) or HNC (SCQF Level 7) qualification that is pertinent to your Modern Apprenticeship role.
Upon completion of Year 1 of your apprenticeship, you will integrate into, and rotate through our team of experienced assembly and test departments or, depending on your role/discipline, be based in the department for an immersive three years of hands-on training. You will gain experience from our teams working within assembly & test, engineering, machining, maintenance and inspection & testing in accordance with controlled, documented procedures, across all our products.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to complete an apprenticeship, to be supported in gaining a formal qualification in Engineering, alongside a vocational (SVQ Level 3) qualification via the apprentice framework, to gain an understanding of our products and the industry, whilst earning.
During your Apprenticeship, you will be encouraged to further develop your skillset and complete core training in HSE, Quality, and Product & Systems Technical Training modules.

The responsibilities for each of the disciplines above will vary and differ but the framework, milestones and goals are consistent for each of the successful applicants, with the end goal to become a time served modern apprentice after the 4 years.
There are responsibilities that are generic across the many roles, some of which are listed below.

  • Learn to perform Assembly, Test & Inspections of Baker Hughes' Hydro-mechanical products, in accordance with technical drawings.
  • Display competence working across Mechanical disciplines - support provided to those with a bias towards one and willing to cross train.
  • Adhere to all established manufacturing procedures and processes to ensure quality through consistent, reliable, repeatable work processing.
  • Work from engineering drawings, following formal procedures and shop routings, ensuring quality end-product for our customers.
  • Learn to fault find non-conforming product down to module / sub-assembly level.
  • Become competent in Pressure System Testing, plus Hydraulic System Flushing.
  • Become competent in the use of Business IT/M systems, including Gensuite, Team Centre, Oracle ERP, Documentum etc.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a minimum of 3 Nat 5 passes - English, Maths, Science or Tech Subject
  • Be enthusiastic about Engineering, be self-motivating and have a keen eye for detail.

Selection Process:

  • Your application will be reviewed by a Recruiter. If you meet the role criteria you will be invited to have an initial discussion with the Recruiter about your application over the phone.
  • If you are selected from the longlist, you will then be invited to go through an online skills test with Angus Training Group. This skills test will involve numeracy, communication skills and general aptitude.
  • For those who pass this test, you will then be invited to an interview onsite at Baker Hughes in Aberdeen or Montrose.
  • The successful candidates will then receive an offer and start at Angus Training Group on the 14th August 2023.
