Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist to work within the Upper GI and CUP team working alongside the multi professional clinical and medical team, Cancer MDT Coordinators, Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialists, Cancer Support Worker and Lead Nurse for Cancer, to deliver a supportive nursing service for patients and their families undergoing treatment and/or investigations for cancer conditions.

The successful candidate will play a key role within the Advanced Nursing Team, providing individualised care to our patients and their families/carers through Inpatient and Outpatient Care, Holistic Needs Assessments and Stratified Follow-Up. The post holder will work with colleagues and the Lead Nurse for Cancer to deliver a supportive nursing service for patients and their families undergoing treatment and investigations for cancer conditions.

This post is a maternity leave cover and available as a fixed term or secondment opportunity. Please check with your line manager prior to applying if you would like a secondment.

Ideally the successful candidate would start mid/ end of July.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for a caseload of patients and will act as Key Worker. They will be responsible for proactive management of these patients, providing a link to colleagues while patients are at home and ensuring necessary onward referrals are in place.

You will work with a world class medical and multidisciplinary team, utilising your knowledge and nursing care in the field of GI Oncology.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • GI/Oncology Experience
  • Experience in teaching and assessing learners and qualified staff
  • Relevant clinical experience at senior level (band 6 or above)
  • Knowledge of research and audit


Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree and/or post graduate diploma/ or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • NMC registered nurse


Skills

Essential

  • IT competent with hospital systems
  • Able to demonstrate good communication skills
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team
