Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to work within our welcoming, knowledgeable and innovative occupational health team. NHS staff can often be at risk of emotional difficulties due to the nature of their work. The postholder will provide a fast access service for NHS staff who would benefit from psychological assessment and therapy.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the psychological assessment of NHS staff offering further intervention where suitable. This will predominantly be with individuals’ however psychological intervention with groups will also be required. The post holder will support the teaching and training activities of the wider therapies team. As part of the occupational health team, the post holder will be involved with multidisciplinary activity including service-related meetings and case discussion. The post holder will be actively involved with clinical governance requirements, including supervision, CPD, audit and evaluation.

Working for our organisation

The postholder would be part of an established multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapist, so would have the opportunity to contribute to meetings and service-related activity. This will involve a combination of audits, e-learning, peer supervision and independent learning. We also have a robust Allied Health Professionals sub team, which will support the postholder’s development. The postholder would also be supported to tailor their skills to an NHS workforce and work closely with the other psychologists in Occupational Health.

Education & professional qualifications and experience

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical / counselling psychology as accredited by a relevant professional body.
  • HCPC registration as per title of this job

Clinical skills

  • Experience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a range of care settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the life course and presenting difficulties that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
  • Evidence of supervised clinical experience in therapeutic intervention and management of clients with emotional difficulties.
  • Evidence of multidisciplinary working.
  • Experience of teaching / training of other professional disciplines.
  • Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.
