The Intensive Care Unit/High Dependency Unit provides high quality care for patients with a wide variety of medical, surgical and obstetric conditions in a critical care environment. Main duties of the job You need to be confident that you have the skills to be responsible for delivering a high standard of nursing care. You will be an excellent communicator, with the ability to work using your own initiative as well as working effectively within a team. Patient care is at the heart of what we do. You must be able to assess individual patient needs, plan to meet them and implement and evaluate the care planned. You must be able to adapt to work to meet the specific needs of patients and their relatives. The post holder will practice within a team of nursing staff, and act as a 'named nurse' for a group of patients: assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating their care needs. You will not require direct supervision and will be expected to co-ordinate a ward area providing direction to junior staff.
