We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist to join a private pathology team based in their private hospital in the historic City of Oxford.

You will be working in a world-renowned centre of excellence for surgical and medical expertise. The hospital is one of the most modern and technologically advanced private hospitals in the UK. You will be a part of a tightly knit team within their pathology lab, not only working on samples from the hospital but also receiving samples from external sources such as GPs and the British army to name a couple.

Who are we looking for?


We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist who can demonstrate their post-qualification experience and competencies working in a lab environment. You will ideally have 1-2 year’s post HCPC registration experience preferably in haematology and chemistry or haematology and blood transfusion.


The successful candidate will work to the highest quality and take pride in the work they do. You will be fully autonomous in the work you do and have a positive and constructive approach to meet customer requirements. You will ensure your work meets the required standards whilst encouraging the same in others. You should be proactive in the development of personal skills and behaviours and always look to identify improvement opportunities in your work and your knowledge.


Duties as a Biomedical Scientist will include:


  • Maintain an organised and sterile working area and equipment.
  • Administer the supply of bloody products, ensuring controlled blood stocks.
  • Contribute to the review, update, and implementation of standard operating procedures.
  • Aid with the production of statistics and the analysis.
  • Ensure laboratory audits are in line with the quality management strategy.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures whilst performing all biomedical diagnostic testing and reporting.
  • Conduct quality control procedures, advising senior staff of any issues.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of specimens and results.


This is a permanent position, where you will work 37.5 hours a week. This is spread across a five-day working week (Monday - Friday) with two different shift patterns, 08:00 - 16:00 and 09:00 - 17:00. You must also participate in the on-call rota for the department, which is 1 in 4 weeks, subject to change to support the needs of the service. The on call standby rate is 10% and call the call out rate is 1.5x. Due to the on call aspect to this role, the ideal candidate will be within a 30 minute commute from the hospital.

Requirements


  • BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
  • HCPC registered.
  • Minimum of 1 year’s post-registration experience, preferably in Haematology and blood transfusion or Chemistry.
  • Capability to work autonomously with experience working alone out of hours.
  • Proficient in multi-disciplinary techniques and various analytical equipment.
