We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist to join a private pathology team based in their private hospital in the historic City of Oxford.

You will be working in a world-renowned centre of excellence for surgical and medical expertise. The hospital is one of the most modern and technologically advanced private hospitals in the UK. You will be a part of a tightly knit team within their pathology lab, not only working on samples from the hospital but also receiving samples from external sources such as GPs and the British army to name a couple.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist who can demonstrate their post-qualification experience and competencies working in a lab environment. You will ideally have 2-4 years total experience working within a laboratory environment, including 1-2 years post HCPC registration experience within histology.
The successful candidate will work to the highest quality and take pride in the work they do. You will be fully autonomous in the work you do and have a positive and constructive approach to meet customer requirements. You will ensure your work meets the required standards whilst encouraging the same in others. You should be proactive in the development of personal skills and behaviours and always look to identify improvement opportunities in your work and your knowledge.
Duties as a BMS Histologist will include:
- Participate in the production of histology sections for microscopic examination which includes:
Biopsy/specimen transfer
Tissue processing
Embedding
Microtomy
Staining
Microscopy
- Preparing staining solutions and reagents
- Aid in the maintenance stock of reagents and consumables,
- Support with internal quality control (QC) and external quality assurance (QA) procedures and provide corrective actions.
- Liaise with clinicians, laboratory and clinical staff from the hospital and other organisations regarding samples, appropriateness of tests and provisions of results.
- Contribute to the review, update, and implementation of standard operating procedures.
- Aid with the production of statistics and the analysis.
- Ensure laboratory audits are in line with the quality management strategy.
- Adhere to standard operating procedures whilst performing all biomedical diagnostic testing and reporting.
This is a permanent position, where you will work 37.5 hours a week. This is spread across a five-day working week (Monday - Friday) with two different shift patterns, 08:00 - 16:00 and 09:00 - 17:00. There are no weekends or on call required with this role.

Requirements
- BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
- HCPC registered.
- 2-4 years post graduate experience working in a laboratory environment.
- Minimum of 1 year’s post-registration experience in histology.
- Able to work autonomously.
- Profound understanding of histology techniques and microscopic examinations.
- Organisational skills.
- IT skills.
