Building Maintenance Surveyor Science and Technology Facilities Council Salary: £34,905 to £37,173 per annum (depending on skills and experience) Contract Type: Open ended (Permanent) Hours: Full-time Location: Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Harwell, Oxfordshire OX11 0QX Closing date: 19th May 2024

You will be responsible for successfully delivering building fabric and grounds maintenance activities in support of STFC, its estate and its scientific programme. STFC appoints government framework consultants and contractors to help deliver this programme of work, and this role is instrumental in developing good working relationships with the supply chain, ensuring high levels of quality, craftsmanship and value for money from it.

You will engage and consult with the Estates Management Team at RAL, and other stakeholders to help derive and deliver a programme of planned and reactive maintenance activities for fabric and grounds assets. This will be delivered through the Estates in-house trades or outsourced specialists.

Role Responsibilities

To be responsible for the oversight and delivery of fabric planned preventative maintenance (PPM) works, ensuring that these are completed to a high standard of workmanship, in accordance with the agreed programme and in accordance with the agreed budget. To oversee and inspect the delivery of grounds maintenance activities, and gauge performance against contract specifications and KPIs. To produce and maintain accurate records and appropriate certificates relevant to the PPM Works. Monitor the progress of the fabric PPM Works against the agreed programme of work and report any slippage or variations to the Helpdesk and FM (Facilities Management) Compliance Manager and the Fabric Service Manager. To review Construction Phase Plans and RAMS (Risk Assessment and Method Statements) produced by contractors undertaking the PPM works, as necessary. To keep the service current with all compliance legislation, regulations, and technical developments regarding building maintenance. To deliver excellent customer service, quality of work, high standards, and professionalism. Essential shortlisting criteria Degree/HNC/ONC qualified or equivalent in Building Surveying or a similar construction related qualification. Be able to demonstrate significant experience in the building maintenance/construction industry. Must possess proven experience of defect analysis, preparing condition schedules/specifications for minor building works and contract managing on site works. Have a good knowledge of statutory and industry compliance requirements, including Planning, Building Regulations, Listed Building Consent and Health and Safety Legislation. Proven experience of managing or working with contractors and managing maintenance and property improvements is essential across an extensive client portfolio; ideally you will also have either extensive experience within the commercial, retail or licensed sectors or within the public sector. You should be able to demonstrate a broad-based knowledge of building construction work, monitor contracts, and supervise on site and demonstrate effective prioritisation and decision-making skills.
