Job Description

Since its founding in 1965, Lucy Cavendish College has been a trailblazer at Cambridge University, committed to serving and supporting exceptional students from historically under-represented backgrounds. In 2019, the College decided to admit men to its Fellowship and to open a second chapter in its history, accepting students from the age of 18, regardless of gender. Through the ensuing and ongoing growth, the community of staff and students at Lucy Cavendish has continued to strengthen its core mission.  In an exciting period of development, Lucy Cavendish is looking to appoint an outstanding individual as its next Bursar. Reporting to the President, Dame Madeleine Atkins, the Bursar is the senior financial officer of the College, accountable to the Governing Body for its financial wellbeing.  The Bursar will have overall responsibility for all matters affecting the College’s finances and endowment, estate, IT, staffing, and legal affairs. They will bring an analytical and data-driven approach to the management of the College’s finances, carefully stewarding – and maximizing the return on - the College’s assets. They will advise the Governing body on financial issues and their risk management. Candidates will bring a solid track-record of financial management and strategic planning, with skills in project management. They will be proactive and strategic thinkers with an agile approach to growth and development. They will be team-players with commercial acumen, and will be confident engaging with the Governing Body and donors, as well as staff and students. The successful candidate will thrive within a fast-paced environment. They will bring an innovative and forward-thinking approach and will be truly committed to Lucy Cavendish’s values, mission and community. Lucy Cavendish is collegiate, ambitious, and welcoming, and the new Bursar will play a pivotal role in the ongoing development and leadership of a diverse and inclusive College community.
