Job Description

Westminster School is an ancient day and boarding school with a unique sense of place. Widely regarded as one of the world's leading academic schools, Westminster provides an exciting and stimulating environment for pupils and staff alike. The school's reputation for academic excellence is predicated upon the pupils' genuine enjoyment of open-minded enquiry, rigorous discussion, and the search for explanation well beyond any examination syllabus. Pupils enhance their intellectual, physical, spiritual, and social development by taking full advantage of the opportunities available to them in art, drama, music, sport, and volunteering in the community.

Make sure to read the full description below, and please apply immediately if you are confident you meet all the requirements.

Westminster School occupies an historic site within the precincts of Westminster Abbey, and Westminster Under School is located a short walk away, in Vincent Square. The two schools currently educate 1,030 pupils aged 7 to 18 between them, and are led by separate Heads, who report both singly and jointly to the Governing Body of the overall charity, the College of St Peter in Westminster.

Reporting to the Head Master of Westminster School and with a dotted line to the Chair of Governors, the Bursar is responsible for the first-class delivery and efficiency of all support services across the charity as well as making a leading contribution to the overall strategic direction. Consequently, the Bursar is a member of the leadership team of both Westminster School and the Under School. This is a complex remit spanning all non-academic operations of the charity, including an extensive estate, ensuring its overall financial health and sustainability. The Bursar will also provide strategic and commercial input into key areas, including the further development of the bursary and outreach programmes, whilst seeking new opportunities for the generation of non-fee income, in the UK and abroad.

The Bursar must be an experienced senior manager, with high intellectual capacity and emotional intelligence, strong financial expertise and a demonstrable record of success in commercial and fiscal management roles, including the delivery of sensitive organisational change. The Bursar will be an analytical thinker; energetic, innovative and entrepreneurial; a good manager of people, and able to deal effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders. Furthermore, they will be a first-class negotiator, with strong communication and analytical skills, and will be wholly committed to the ethos and values of Westminster.
