The Role:

You will be responsible for liaising with the programme/project delivery teams and preparing the business for the transition to new ways of working by assisting in creating and implementation of change management strategies for the region in support of the redevelopment at the port.


Your role will involve engagement with senior management across the business and an in-depth involvement with operational teams, leading by example and championing change.


You will need the ability to lead, support, coach and empower others to deliver in a multifaceted area of work.


Responsibilities:

Provide visible and effective leadership, working with operational and project leads to deliver benefits and improvement outcomes.

Support and actively work with Border Force Central region impacted by the Stansted Project, to plan for and implement the required changes to achieve intended outcomes and benefits, by engaging with them to co-ordinate assessment of port level and regional readiness impacts.

Establish and maintain robust, effective and lasting working relationships with operational business representatives, and other stakeholders responsible for the development and delivery of the business changes required.

Build, maintain and leverage relationships with other key stakeholders at a local, regional and national level as a lead single point of contact, sharing knowledge and best practice, to co-ordinate and deliver change impacts assessments, and ensuring local Border Force staff input is captured and reflected as well as operational priorities. To act as a critical friend to provide challenge and direction where required.

Communicate at all levels including organising and chairing workshops, participating in relevant events and producing/supporting colleagues in the preparation of, high-quality written briefing and other communication materials for Ministers, Senior Civil Service, Programme Board, cross-organisation and external organisations.

Actively participate as a member of the Stansted Programme Management Team, representing the views and interests of Border Force, and provide direction and strong leadership.


Skills & Experience:

Experience of delivery in a complex and fast paced project or programme, including successfully applying project methodologies.

You take responsibility for and can effectively manage a team, setting the direction, whilst empowering and developing others.

You can provide strong and effective leadership and communicate confidently orally and in writing, giving direction whilst making balanced judgements around when to escalate.

You can build support networks quickly, proactively creating and maintain positive, professional and trusting working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders within and outside the organisation. You identify connections and reach out to bring people together.

You take charge of situations and people, can influence others and articulate your rationale to gain their agreement whilst welcoming and responding positively to challenge, which you use to refine and iterate plans.

You bring a fresh perspective whatever the situation or context. You listen actively to other people’s views and appreciate there are many different perspectives to consider.

You can be flexible and versatile, and you act as an advocate for change, leading by example.

You are comfortable working with ambiguity, weighing up options in complex scenarios with multiple variables and make effective recommendations and decisions based on sound judgement.

You scan the horizon and quickly analyse information from a range of internal and external sources, identify potential issues / risks that may impact on delivery and intended outcomes and benefits, and put plans in place to mitigate these and escalate when required.

You are well organised, with experience of balancing multiple responsibilities and can quickly reassess workloads/priorities, and delegate appropriately when there are conflicting demands to maintain performance and deliver.

Change or project management qualification such as APMG Change Management; APMG Managing Successful Programmes.
