Wood is currently recruiting for a Business Development Manager to work in our Reading office. The role's objective is to support the winning of new business for the Reading Centre of Excellence, supporting the regional leadership to identify and acquire new projects, meeting strategic business targets including financial and client relationship development.
Primary focus will be upon the development and management of UK's prospect portfolio for FEED's, Detail Design, EPCM / EPC and PMC projects for complex facilities in Process & Chemicals, Conventional Energy and Renewable sectors. A key element of the role is to harness Wood's breadth of capabilities to provide innovative solutions to our customers problems presented by the emerging New Energy industry as part of the Energy Transition shift.
As part of the Europe, Africa & CIS BD team, the BDM will co - ordinate with other regional BDM's and execution centres across Wood to fully exploit opportunities for the UK CoE's, identifying the capabilities / skillsets / competence / relationships / cost bases which may be advantageous to employ to best position Wood to win work. Geographical location of clients and projects extend to the Middle East and beyond where appropriate.
The BDM supports all positioning, business strategies, business development, acquisition pursuits, key customer management and proposal activities and ensures they are consistent with Wood's processes, procedures, strategic plan, and business goals for their Region. An ability to travel at short notice is a pre - requisite for this role to support the business acquisition activities across the region.
The BDM will utilise their market / client / opportunity knowledge to identify risks and win probability to enable a Pursue / No Pursue decision to be made.
Skills / Qualifications
Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified in an engineering subject or equivalent preferred
  • Advanced computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft office tools, Word / Excel / PowerPoint, required

Knowledge of:
  • Refining / petrochemicals engineering
  • Energy transition market opportunities in terms of decarbonization, electrification, Carbon Capture & H2 developments
  • Project delivery from concept through to commissioning is essential
  • Strategy and Development tools and systems
  • Thorough understanding and ability to implement industry best practice
  • Knowledge of working with Middle East clients is desirable
  • Good understanding of the commercial drivers internally and externally

Experience:
  • International Oil & Gas business development experience for onshore projects
  • Strong experience in the refining and petrochemical industry sector
  • identifying opportunities and offerings within the Energy Transition market
  • Development of strategic business plans to identify key growth opportunities by geographical and market sector expansion
  • Experience in a proposal's development role would be advantageous
  • Candidate will have worked in a senior role in an engineering contractor's organisation and is driven to meet deadlines whilst maintaining quality of output in a high - pressure environment

Minimum Experience:
  • Extensive experience in a similar role with a good background in a client facing role
