Business Development & Marketing Executive

Wedlake Bell is seeking a Business Development & Marketing Executive to join our busy team. This is a full-time, permanent position.

The Business Development & Marketing Executive will be a key member of the BD & Marketing team. The role will be critical in both supporting marketing and BD across the firm's core departments and sectors, with the goal of both profile raising and contributing to the firm's revenue generation objectives. A certain degree of practice-group alignment is likely to be introduced over time.

The Business Development and Marketing team plays a crucial part in shaping the Firm’s future. Our role is to build the firm’s reputation among all stakeholders, help develop deeper and broader relationships and to both drive and support revenue growth.

In this role, you will work closely with the Senior BD Managers (SBDMs) to implement andexecute strategic business plans for our various practice groups, supporting BD projects and initiatives from initial pitches and proposals, through to completion. We are seeking a driven candidate with a strong drafting and writing ability, expert communication skills, and who shows a willingness to drive growth and new ideas.

Our BD Team Consists of:

  • Business Development & Marketing Director;
  • Head of PR & Communications;
  • Three Senior Business Development Managers aligned to:
    • Private Client Department
    • Real Estate Department
    • Disputes and Business Services Departments
  • Two Senior Business Development Executives;
  • Events Co-ordinator;
  • Marketing Operations Co-ordinator.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support on the design and implementation of BD&M campaigns, considering all elements of the full marketing mix including: thought leadership, blogs, social media, webinars, podcasts, events, PR, etc;
  • Contribute and produce pitch and proposal opportunities with the SBDMs, delivering strong, first working documents to the partners and seeing the proposal process through to completion;
  • Share ideas to develop new and existing clients as well as proactively seeking out ways to cross sell into the wider Wedlake Bell business;
  • Prepare and maintain practice related materials (practice group profiles, deal / matter case studies, CVs, pitch log etc.);
  • Work with the Events Executive to plan, coordinate and execute events such as seminars, roundtables and receptions. Particular contribution on the BD elements of the event process such as the development of mailing lists and sending / tracking invitations / responses;
  • Source relevant content for the firm’s website and intranet;
  • Support legal directory submission process (L500, Chambers and others);
  • Assist with the development, adoption and maintenance of the firm's CRM system (InterAction);
  • Assist with sharing practice group and sector related content on the firmwide social media accounts;
  • Other ad-hoc BD & Marketing duties as they arise.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 2-3 year's proven experience working in a BD & Marketing function in a partnership environment(ideally law, but we will consider other fields);
  • A Business or Marketing-related degree (or equivalent experience);
  • A creative thinker with a strong understanding of BD & Marketing principles and strategies, including digital marketing and social media;
  • Excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Excellent communication skills, andthe ability to liaise and influence at all levels, in the firm and with external stakeholders;
  • Knowledge and experience of using a CRM (we use InterAction) and campaign-management systems (we use Vuture); and
  • A drive to develop and grow the firm.
