CFO - CleanTech

Core3 have been retained by a PE backed CleanTech startup to appoint a CFO.

  • Hybrid contract requiring 2-3 days onsite in their Manchester office
  • £140,000 - £175,000 + Bonus + Equity

Why join our client?

My client is a Series A CleanTech startup based in the Manchester area, currently with less than 50 employees but huge ambition.

Circa 5 years old, the business is now starting to springboard and has grown from £2mill revenue in 2023 to being on track to deliver £20mill revenue in 2024. They are appropriately funded with a recent and successful Series A raise and fast approaching Series B, with the security of repeat support from a lead investor.

How You'll Make An Impact

As the CFO of this early stage CleanTech, your role will be to shape and lead a lean finance function, whilst being an instrumental part of the businesses' rapid growth and international expansion.

The expectation is that you can nail the controllership aspect of the role, creating an operating platform and defining/hiring a team that is able to cope with a very fast growth trajectory, whilst spending most of your time on delivering the commercial and strategic agenda as part of the Exec leadership team.

There will also be an opportunity to take a subsidiary Board role in the near future.

  • Forming the company's financial strategy and long-term plans alongside the Exec team
  • Building the first true 1-year and 3-years forecasts
  • Contributing to the design and implementation of a fit-for-purpose investment plan
  • Assisting in FDD, negotiation and execution of M&A opportunities, as well as post-acquisition restructuring and integration
  • Aligning the business' performance KPI's with company target
  • Owning margins, performance vs budget, and reporting on variances
  • Managing treasury and implementing a robust cashflow management process and forecasts, identifying risks.
  • Oversight and ultimate responsibility for all operational finance, including group level financial reporting, stat reporting, management accounting.
  • Input into the strategic development of the Group-wide tech stack/investment

Why Our Client Is Excited About You

Our client is looking for someone who is values driven and has a passion for both technology and sustainability. It's currently a small business, and the headcount plans mean they will always run 'lean' even when they scale. So, this suits a modern CFO who embraces automation and is excited to work at pace.

You must have prior experience leading a finance function, you most likely carry the title of a Senior Head of Finance, Divisional FD, Group FD or CFO and want to become, or thrive as a No1 in finance.

  • Qualified Accountant (ideally Top 6 ACA but not wedded to this) with 8+ years PQE
  • Proven track record in a fast-growth tech startup or scaleup. Think FinTech, AI, Blockchain, ML etc with a global or European footprint.
  • Understanding of Private Equity, debt capital, fundraising and ideally working with the Advisor community
  • Proven experience partnering a cross functional leadership team
  • Extensive exposure to forecasting, planning, budgeting and analysis
  • Ability to be hands-on - this is not a 'pure' Manager role. There is an expectation to be comfortable leading from the front when required.

What You'll Get In Return

  • £140,000-£175,000 (+/-) Base Salary
  • Bonus
  • Equity
  • Additional Benefits - some of which can be agreed DOE

We invite applications from all qualified candidates who believe they meet the requirements of the role, whilst supporting and promoting equality and diversity to create an inclusive working environment for all.
