We’re looking for a new CDO/Co-op Data Director to develop a data strategy that drives both value and values.

In this role, you’ll work with colleagues to define and implement a data strategy that enhances our data products and platforms – enabling Co-op leaders by providing them with the tools and information they need to drive great commercial outcomes while delivering our Co-operating for a Fairer World vision.

At Co-op, profits and principles go hand in hand. By re-imagining our data infrastructure you’ll enable our leaders to increase footfall, enhance customer acquisition and loyalty, and improve the membership proposition that underpins our co-operative business model.

To be successful, you’ll need to influence senior stakeholders across our Co-op – establishing yourself as a thought leader who can help join the dots between our ethical goals and commercial imperatives.

What you’ll do

  • define the vision and data strategy to increase accessibility of data, enabling data-driven insights that inform the business’s strategic direction
  • act as a thought leader and champion for the value of data and insights and the voice of customers/users in decision making
  • lead the Co-op data team, building the team’s capability, developing skills and providing career development opportunities
  • develop strategies to drive improvements in colleagues’ data literacy, advocacy and capabilities so data is at the heart of decision making
  • develop data reporting products that improve business performance and the achievement of overall business goals
  • establish enterprise-wide analytics toolsets that drive innovation and create an advantage for the business
  • enable data-driven insights that inform the business’s strategic direction
  • develop enterprise data platform and self-serve capabilities that empower colleagues providing them with accessible, trusted data to make informed decisions
  • develop, manage and embed data ownership networks and forums so the business manage their data effectively
  • define data policies, standards, processes, tooling and controls across Co-op and internal/external partners to manage our data effectively and ethically
  • define the master data management and data quality strategies and work with enterprise architecture to define Co-op wide data architecture
  • establish enterprise-scale data integration design standards and procedures and adherence

This role would suit people who have

  • developed and executed a data strategy in a large, complex organisation within a customer-centric industry or sector
  • excellent people skills with the ability to engage at all levels and translate technical issues in data management to business impacts
  • experience of developing cultures of data excellence, and the ability to drive cultural change over a long period
  • defined and managed data governance policies and processes
  • experience and understanding of cloud-based enterprise data architecture (SAP, Data Bricks and MS Azure are key Co-op platforms)
  • knowledge and understanding of the business value provided by coordinated data capabilities
  • experience of running data management and remediation processes including root cause analysis
  • an inspiring leadership style and coaching mentality with the ability to shine a light on data issues and challenges in a constructive way

Why Co-op?
