About AXA Smart Services

In line with the AXA Group’s Payer to Partner strategy and ambition to develop an innovative transversal solution to help us better serve our customers, AXA’s Management Committee recently announced a new strategic initiative - Digital Commercial Platform (DCP) – designed to transform AXA’s value proposition. Through DCP, AXA will serve existing and new corporate clients and partners through an evolving business model, where our focus on insurance protection will transition to a combination of protection, prevention, and services – moving from loss prevention to loss prediction.

The DCP Program comprises two complementary initiatives:

  • AXA Smart Services
  • AXA Climate

AXA Smart Services relies on creating an ecosystem of AXA’s risk insights, risk management, and risk prevention capabilities to enhance and support our service offering to commercial clients. Clients will be able to access a broad selection of data built on existing or developing AXA assets. The platform will also create value by monetizing unique capabilities and services for our customers, aggregating, and delivering insights from unique data sets with external partners, and fostering end-customer relationships in alignment with brokers.

AXA Smart Services aims to:

  • improve our underwriting pricing and claims capabilities across the commercial lines book of business of AXA Group
  • create a platform for risk management and prevention services
  • build an ecosystem of business partners

About the role

As the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of AXA Smart Services, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and direction for the entire AXA Smart Services organization in a fast-paced environment, being the hands-on driving force behind the development and implementation of new technologies, and of AXA Smart Service’s target platform in particular.

Your role will encompass several significant functions including Enterprise Architecture, Solutions Architecture, Data Architecture, Security Architecture, and Infrastructure Engineering. You will be a key member of the executive team and will play a critical role in the company's growth and success. You will report to the Head of AXA Smart Services.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Develop and implement technology strategies that align with AXA Smart Services’ overall business objectives
  • Lead the architecture design of the target platform and the related development roadmap
  • Build relationships with key partners, such as technology vendors, that can support the technology strategy of the company
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of the company's product and solutions
  • Build and lead a high-performing team of architects (Enterprise, Solution, Data, Security) and engineers to build the best-in-class platform infrastructure
  • Collaborate with other functions, such as Products, Sales, Operations, and with AXA entities, to identify and implement technology solutions that improve efficiency and drive revenue growth
  • Stay current with the latest developments and trends in technology, assess their potential impact on the organization, and identify the ones that can solve business problems and deliver a competitive advantage to the company
  • Support technology budget and recruitment processes
  • Lead the AXA Smart Services Design Board to validate technical choices
  • Serve as the primary engagement leader with Group IT; represents AXA Smart Services in CTO Forums, leads alignment of AXA Smart Services technologies to Group standards, in particular on security and data privacy
  • Communicate technical concepts and ideas to non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership
  • Act as an evangelist for the company and its technology, both internally and externally
  • Continually analyze performance, recommend, and implement changes to improve performance and scalability

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

Required Technical skills

  • Robust knowledge and experience in software development, IT operations and data management, in particular on the following technologies:
    • Azure and AWS cloud environments and main Azure/AWS serverless services (e.g., Kinesis, Lambda, API GW, DynamoDB…)
    • Java & Python languages
    • Programming in Unix-like environments, Docker
    • Programming for production environments: scalability, fault tolerance, unit tests, automation, security in mind, database usage, metrics, monitoring…
    • Git, Terraform & Jenkins
    • JavaScript and or TypeScript
    • Static webpage style development
    • React library
    • HTTP APIs
    • DevOps, MLOps
  • Excellent leadership and management skills. Demonstrates managerial courage. Coaches, trains, sets expectations, evaluates, and holds people accountable for delivering
  • Effective problem-solving skills: ability to quickly analyze problems and develop actionable and appropriate plans
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to make appropriate recommendations and ‘own’ decisions
  • A keen interest in cloud technology and emerging technologies
  • Sound business and technology knowledge with commercial awareness and an understanding of Financial Services markets, customers, and technologies

Background and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering; advanced degree is a plus
  • Extensive hands-on professional experience in architecture design, software development, technical lead
  • CTO position (or similar leadership role) within startups-like structure or fast-paced environment
  • Experience in Corporate IT departments
  • Proven track record of delivering software products and solutions on time and on budget
  • Experience in innovation and technology visioning, planning and strategy making
  • Experience in implementing and managing IT governance
