Job Title: Civil Design Engineer

About the Role: Responsible for production and review of civil engineering
designs (Viability, Planning, S38/S104/S278, Earthworks, Private Drainage & External Levels) to achieve technical approvals and enable efficient and cost-effective construction of new housing schemes. Reporting to the Head of Technical, you will also be working alongside Land, Architecture, Commercial and Construction departments to provide engineering input into all stages of sites from acquisition to final handovers.

As a Civil Design Engineer, you will be working with a Senior Design Engineer to gain experience of the role and to offer advice and assistance. You will also be working with a Junior Design Engineer, who will assist with the production of drawings and designs. Good communication skills and a desire to learn, teach and grow are essential for the role.

You must be a highly organised individual with good problem- solving abilities, strong communication skills and be able to work as part of a team in the technical office. You will ideally enjoy working in a fast paced, team environment and be able to
espond quickly to technical queries and evolving project briefs.

Key Responsibilities:

Estimating and Tendering: Accurately estimate client bills and submit competitive tenders. Manage the entire tender process from start to finish. Supplier and Subcontractor Liaison: Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to gather and negotiate prices, ensuring the best cost and quality balance. Bill of Quantities (BoQ): Assist in opportunities for lump sum tenders by producing detailed and accurate BoQ’s. Risk Assessment: Evaluate the financial, technical, and operational risks associated with each project. Project Delivery: Collaborate with the site team to ensure projects are executed in accordance with the provided quotes and client expectations. Valuation and Measurement: Conduct detailed take offs from project drawings and site visits to support accurate valuation and budgeting. Monthly Valuations: Submit precise and fully substantiated monthly valuations. Pricing and Change Control: Efficiently price project variations and manage change control to adapt to project shifts. Material and Subcontractor Coordination: Create detailed measures for material ordering and coordinate with subcontractors for timely and accurate supply and workmanship. Communication: Maintain robust communication channels with clients, suppliers, and site teams to ensure smooth operation and project delivery.

Requirements:

Production of road, sewer, external works, private drainage and other bespoke designs. Reviewing designs for cost/build issues and marking up drawings to feed back to other departments to optimise developments.

Production of Planning, S38/S104/S184/S278 technical submission drawings/info packs for submission to and approval from relevant authorities.

Production of viability designs and assessments to aid in land acquisition and site viability assessments, including the identification of potential risks and opportunities.

Attending sites as appropriate for initial site walkovers, meetings and to provide assistance.

Providing technical drawings and responses to assist in the Planning process.

Assssment of site earthworks and production of cut/fill isopachyte drawings.

Assessing potential site constraints and opportunities and production of Constrains and Opportunities Plans to inform designs.

Assisting the wider business with technical queries and production of engineering solutions, including providing input into the development of site layouts where appropriate.

Assisting in the training and development of junior staff members and increasing awareness of engineering design across the business

Desirable Experience:

HNC / HND qualification or similar in Civil Engineering Site3D Design Civil3D Earthworks Analysis AutoCAD MicroDrainage Design CSCS Card AutoCAD MS Office
