The Clinical Director leads the Care Group management team, enabling the delivery of outstanding services in accordance with agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, controls and resource constraints as set out in the business plans for the services delivered by the Care Group. The Clinical Director has a key role to play in the development of the Care Group's strategic vision.

The Clinical Director is expected to inform the Site Executive Team of any risk to high quality patient care, staff satisfaction or to the delivery of financial or activity targets.



The way in which the Clinical Director carries out their role will always be guided by the Trust values.



The Clinical Director will work to the Site Director of Operations and the Site Executive Management Team.



As the clinical Director for Adult Medicine - 5 PA's will be for your CD role and 5 additional PA's will be worked in a Clinical Consultant capacity. We are looking for a consultant who is ready for a new challenge preferably from Frailty and/or Gerontology background



Main duties of the job



As the accountable officer for the Care Group, the Clinical Director is responsible for:



  • the delivery of high quality, safe care to patients across the range of services provided by the Care Group;
  • working with the wider multi-disciplinary team and key stakeholders within the Care Group, the wider Trust and across King's Health Partners, One Bromley and the South London sustainability and transformation partnership, to ensure care group strategies are set and plans are in place to achieve them
  • line managing the General Manager, the Head of Nursing, Clinical Leads and other direct reports, ensuring that they feel well supported, engaged and clear about objectives and activity plans
  • achieving financial sustainability and meeting operational targets, actively participating in the design and delivery of business plans

The management time for this role will be clearly outlined in job plans. Clinical Directors candidate will be expected to adjust their job plan, as far as possible, to undertake their leadership role so that it takes place within the standard working week (8.00-18.00, Monday to Friday). Clinical Directors are required to attend the meetings of the PRUH executive and its subgroups. Meetings are currently held on Tuesdays and Thursdays but this may be changed from time to time as the need arises.

Experience & Qualification

Essential



  • Postgraduate Degree or equivalent level
  • Further evidence of management/leadership training and continuous professional development

Desirable



  • Has undertaken specific development activity in medical leadership

Knowledge & Experience

Essential



  • A senior clinician from any professional background
  • Experience of holding senior clinicians to account for standards of care
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical audit, Research and Development
  • Understanding of the provision and delivery of health care services and of Government's strategy and plans for modernising health care including understanding the implications for medical staff
  • Advanced management/leadership experience of clinical teams
  • Has the credibility to be a clinical leader by way of demonstrable clinical excellence and being able to command trust from colleagues
  • Is able to work closely with key operational and nursing counterparts to provide effective leadership
  • Is capable of leading a multidisciplinary team of clinicians (doctors, nurses and associated healthcare workers) within a complex healthcare system
  • Demonstrates previous experience of leading clinical teams at a high level and leading change
  • Proven ability to manage a budget/multiple budgets
