The Hospice provide specialist care, free of charge, to adults in Kirklees with advanced, progressive illnesses at any time from diagnosis to the end of life, respecting their individual needs and wishes. Care and support are also provided for their family members, friends, and carers, both during the illness and after death. Through education, training, and partnership with others, we improve care for everyone affected by a life limiting illness

They have a very exciting opportunity to join their clinical team as a Clinical Nurse Advisor. The postholder will predominantly work on a busy telephone support service, ensuring timely and effective advice and support is given to patients, families and external professionals.

Clinical Nurse Advisor (band 5)

The ideal candidate must be a registered nurse (Band 5 equivalent) with specialist palliative care knowledge who is committed to delivering a high standard of clinical care that is responsive to need and enhances patient experience. The post holder will provide clinical advice and assessment face to face, over the phone and virtually as appropriate for patients and will support delivery of clinical expertise as part of our community services.

The post holder should have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, be emotionally resilient, committed to continuous professional development, hold a full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle for work purposes and both believe in and uphold the charity’s values in all their actions and endeavours.

This position is a very exciting opportunity to join a busy but evolving service, you would be part of a larger extremely supportive team. The clinical team there have over 100 members of staff.

The Role

  • The team work on a system called ‘System 1’ so experience of using this would be a great advantage.
  • Calls are triaged from a call navigator on the system and you would make the outbound return calls. There may be times when you are required to answer the phonelines when the team are busy.
  • You would be providing advice, Sign posting and liaising with other professionals.
  • You must be able to remain calm under pressure and deal with situations with the correct balance of empathy and professionalism.
  • There are other elements to this role which are patient facing, the charity run a comprehensive program of community support groups and you would deliver sessions on this side of the service on a rota basis. This keeps the element of face to face nursing contact to the role. Due to this the role is car driver essential.
  • Within this team there will also be the chance to become involved in fundraising events and other things that come as a collective responsibility of the whole team at this amazing place.
  • Hours of Work
  • The hours in this role can be flexible and the hiring manager is happy to discuss this with anyone who is interested in the role. There are two posts available, it could suit someone looking for between 22-32 hrs per week. The shifts are 8.30am-5.30pm across 7 days per week.
  • Weekends are on a rolling rota with the ideal once the team are fully established would be to work 1 in 5.
  • The starting salary for the position is £29911(FTE) . The sliding scale for the position is £29911-349900 (FTE) with a salary review every 12mths. Increase in salary is performance related rather than increased by length of service.
