The Gender Identity Clinic (GIC) is the largest and oldest gender clinic in the UK, dating back to 1966. We accept referrals from all over the UK for adults with issues related to gender. We accept referrals for patients who are aged 17 years and older onto our waiting list. Patients will not be offered an appointment before their 18th birthday.
We are a multi-disciplinary team, including psychologists, psychiatrists, endocrinologists, speech and language therapists, and nurses. We work together to provide holistic gender care, focusing on the biological/medical, psychological, and social aspects of gender.
Main duties of the job
Working together with the Consultant Lead Endocrinologist, the CNS plays a vital role, in monitoring and managing physical health and endocrine needs of patients under the care of the Gender Identity Clinic. This work is pivotal in ensuring that hormones are initiated, reviewed, and altered with minimal delay. This requires forming close working relationships, on-going consultation support to GPs by consistently enacting the Shared Care Prescribing Protocol. In partnership with other members of the Multi-disciplinary Team, the role supports the patient's safe progression through the established care pathway.
The post holder will foster a culture of networking in an open and transparent way with internal and external partners. You will act as a positive role model and participate in the education, development and mentorship of other staff.

Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse with the NMC
- Degree level education or equivalent
- Evidence of post graduate education and training/CPD relevant to role
Desirable
- Mentorship Qualification (or equivalent qualification such as Practice Assessor trained)
- Evidence of skills and knowledge or qualification in advanced clinical assessment/physical examination or willingness to undertake this training.
- Independent prescriber with experience of prescribing or willingness to undertake training
- Post graduate qualification in Gender Healthcare
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working with Gender Clients
- Experience of Endocrine Nurse practice
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience in interpreting blood test results
- Experience of care planning
- Experience of liaising with external agencies and professional networks
- Experience of supporting/teaching/supervising nursing students or equivalent
- Competent in venesection
Desirable
- Experience of working in a Band 7 role
- Experience of supervising and/or managing junior staff
- Experience of writing or contributing to research grants and/or publications
