Following the promotion of our paediatric diabetes specialist nurse,an exciting opportunity has arisen to join a team of motivated and dynamic children's diabetes service. The successful candidate will be working in an award-winning team. The post requires continued collaboration with the acute and community paediatric leads within North Middlesex Hospital and across North Central London.

We are seeking an experienced children's nurse, with experience in acute and community, children or neonatal services practicing at band 6 level or above. The team that you will work with you is talented, motivated, and expanding with several exciting new roles concurrently advertised. We are looking for a candidate who will be visible, patient and staff focused to work within this excellent team.

This is the perfect role for an nurse who wishes to pursue a CNS role in diabetes.' For internal applications this post could be considered as a secondment with your direct line manager support.

Main duties of the job

The Diabetic Nurse Specialist and will act as a Lead and role model providing expertise in the area of paediatric diabetes. They will provide specialist care to individual patients or patient groups as a component of the patients wider care management and in collaboration with the wider multi-professional healthcare team.

The Diabetic Nurse Specialist should be educated to first degree level in a health related subject and have completed appropriate post registration education development within paediatric diabetes. The individual must also have a Masters/or working towards the award.

About us

The Paediatric Diabetes team is a multidisciplinary service consisting of consultant staffing, Diabetes Clinical Nurse Specialist Support, Diabetes Dietitian support, Registered Nursing Associate, admin service support, and input from the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Paediatric Liaison Team (CAPPLT) providing a comprehensive service to all patients with diabetes, whether this be newly diagnosed, or maintaining their health following a diagnosis.

The service operates Monday - Friday and provides Outpatient, Psychotherapy, Psychology, and ambulating services to all patients within the cohort, as well as providing support to external stakeholders such as local GP practices and schools, and the service works in tandem with other Diabetes team within hospitals in the North Central London area.

The team also provide out of hours telephone 'on-call' support on a rostered basis.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in Nursing or Relevant professional knowledge acquired through a degree, relevant to the specialty supported by specialist training, experience, or short courses to master's level equivalent
  • Evidence of continuing Professional development.


Skills and abilities

Essential

  • Ability to work with complex facts which require analysis, interpretation and to present findings
  • The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
  • Ability to manage high level projects across a range of disciplines and to influence others without having direct authority.
  • Excellent presentation skills with ability to present complex information in an easily understandable format.


Experience

Essential

  • Practicing Paediatric Nurse or AHP on register with significant experience at a senior level.
  • Experience in managing highly complex, sensitive, or contentious information to include analysis of data and reporting on same.
