Salary: £43,742 – £50,056 per annum

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct psychological services to clients, including conducting and interpreting a wide range of assessment procedures.
  • Offer therapeutic support to clients through both group work and individual sessions.
  • Prepare detailed professional reports on client assessments and progress and make recommendations for future provisions.
  • Supervise and direct the clinical work of junior staff and psychology students within the psychology department.
  • Deliver staff training, awareness sessions, and advice to colleagues on the cognitive, emotional, and behavioural implications of acquired brain injury, and develop, implement, and monitor strategies to facilitate learning and manage client behaviour.
  • Initiate and participate in formal research projects, publishing findings as appropriate.
  • Conduct analysis of psychological and clinical outcomes as needed.
  • Support the Psychology team and members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) as required.
  • Advise the Head of Clinical Services on the suitability of prospective clients.
  • Represent the service in clinical and non-clinical meetings and deliver presentations or participate in training sessions.
  • Stay updated with developments in the field of brain injury rehabilitation.
  • Assist the team and families in planning client discharges, considering psychological and cognitive needs.
  • Assess and manage mental capacity and risk issues in collaboration with the Lead Psychologist and wider MDT.
  • Support the team in managing the emotional impact of caring for clients with significant cognitive, communication, and/or physical difficulties.

Requirements of the Clinical Psychologist/Counselling Psychologist:

  • Doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology.
  • Up to date HCPC registration/ or for newly qualified clinical psychologists, due for registration once course is complete.
  • Professional qualifications and experience in any of the following: Neuropsychology, counselling, psychotherapy, or behaviour management.
  • Experience working with people with cognitive impairments.
  • Experienced in the use of neuropsychological assessment to inform care planning.
  • Experience working with clients who people whose behaviour challenges.
  • Experience working with people who have an acquired brain injury / in a neuro-rehab setting or community-based neuro setting.
  • Experience working with staff teams in a residential setting.
  • Experience facilitating psycho-education or psychological therapy groups.
