THERAPY DEPARTMENT

  • Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist - Band 7 37.5 hours
  • Glenfield Hospital
Due to recent investment a new Respiratory Support Unit has opened at Glenfield hospital. We are seeking a Band 7 Occupational Therapist who can lead on developing the OT service on this unit and demonstrate specialised clinical skills. This post will allow an Occupational Therapist to work in an acute hospital setting using all of their psychosocial and mental health skills, alongside using their physical treatment skills. The case load will require someone skilled at anxiety management, de-escalation of panic attacks, and early OT intervention to lesson an acute stress response. You will work alongside the Physiotherapists to carry out assessments and be responsible for assessing cognitive and functional abilities. You will also work to facilitate discharge and optimise patient outcomes. This is a new post therefore Service development will form a large part of the role. You will work alongside an established Physiotherapy team and MDT.

Main duties of the job

You will be directly involved in audit and development of the service to continuously improve patient care.You will demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills, working within a large multidisciplinary team to support functional assessments and interventions to facilitate safe and effective discharge planning for complex patients.


You will support and manage a team of Occupational Therapists, whilst working closing with Physiotherapists and support workers across the Glenfield teams.

Job responsibilities


  • Provide clinical and professional leadership to Therapy colleagues in the speciality area.
  • Lead, evaluate and develop clinical practice within a specialty ensuring compliance with national and local guidelines and frameworks.
  • Responsible for clinical standards, evidence-based practice and quality metrics within the speciality.
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner to provide specialist therapy assessments, diagnose and develop individualised treatment programmes based on the patients needs, using advanced clinical reasoning skills
  • To be responsible for a clinical caseload which will include complex cases.
  • Undertake an active role in developing and promoting Therapy within the specialty.
  • Be responsible for the day to day management of the delivery of the Therapy specialist team in an efficient and effective way within a fast and pressurised environment.
  • Participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Therapy within the Specialist Team holding responsibility for defined projects
  • Work alongside the Therapy Speciality Lead / Therapy Clinical Team Leader to develop links between the specialist Therapy team and relevant Divisions within UHL.
  • Ensure the training and development of staff within the Therapy Speciality Team
  • Liaise with colleagues and work across site/cross specialty if appropriate in order to ensure the provision of a seamless equitable service
  • Deputise for the Therapy Speciality Lead as appropriate

  • HCPC registration
  • Previous employment as a Senior Therapist
