Cloud Platform EngineerProfile Platform engineers should have a broad skillset across multiple cloud domains (networking, security, platform engineering, etc) as they will be expected use there experience and skills to help the university adopt best practice, and ensure our customers are also delivering to our internal standards. Some key responsibilities include:Designing, developing, testing and deploying scalable and reliable cloud platform solutions using Azure services and toolsImplementing best practices and standards for cloud platform architecture, security, performance, availability and automationTroubleshooting and resolving complex issues related to cloud platform components, such as virtual machines, storage accounts, networking, identity and access management, monitoring and backupCollaborating with other engineers, developers, architects and stakeholders to deliver high-quality cloud platform solutions that meet the business requirements and expectationsKeeping up to date with the latest trends and technologies in cloud platform development and innovationCreating design patterns that ensure internal compliance, and are developed with modularity in mind Desirable Tech Skills Cloud Infrastructure and Services Expertise:A deep understanding of cloud services, particularly those offered by Microsoft Azure.Proficiency in configuring and managing virtual machines, app services, databases, and networking in the cloud.Domain knowledge in the following Azure services:Azure Virtual NetworksAzure Virtual WANAzure App Service EnvironmentsAzure App Services/Logic Apps/Function Apps/App Service PlansAzure CAF (Landing Zone Designs)Azure Data products (Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB, Data Factory)Azure Security - (RBACS, Azure Entra, PIM) Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD):A core component of the Platform Engineering philosophy.Skills in automating the software delivery process using tools like Azure DevOps, GitHub / GitHub ActionsProficiency in scripting deployment tasks, managing build processes, and orchestrating automated tests.Infrastructure as Code (IaC):Ability to define and manage infrastructure using code.Familiarity with tools like Terraform, ARM templates, or Bicep for declarative infrastructure provisioning.Monitoring and Performance Tuning:Expertise in monitoring cloud resources and applications.Knowledge of tools like Azure Monitor, Application Insights, and Log Analytics.Skills to optimize performance, troubleshoot bottlenecks, and ensure efficient resource utilization.
