What you will be doing:


To work as part of a centralised Client and Matter Inception (CMI) team providing a professional high quality, solution focused and efficient client on-boarding and matter opening journey. Ensuring all work requests are carried out in line with AML and other regulatory requirements. Working to set SLAs in order to meet clients’ needs.


Responsibilities include:

  • Playing a key role in helping the firm embed new CMI processes and working practices.
  • Liaising with the legal teams and external clients to obtain information and documentation as required.
  • Conducting research on clients using the firm’s systems and public sources to meet strict regulatory requirements.
  • Carrying out searches to identify whether a client is politically exposed or subject to sanctions.
  • Prioritising and processing all work requests in line with expectations and agreed SLAs.
  • Providing expert assistance to the firm in relation to resolving client on-boarding and matter opening challenges when required.
  • Collecting and analysing essential client information for new business intake, following a prescribed process.
  • Conducting conflict of interest checks and considering results.
  • Assessing Red Flags, evaluating matter complexities and ensuring adherence to compliance and regulatory needs.
  • Conducting thorough risk assessments and client due diligence at inception, providing robust and constructive feedback directly to the client partner/fee earner as required
  • Documenting, certifying and retaining accurate documentation of all client interactions, decisions and key information to meet compliance standards.
  • Taking responsibility to ensure each piece of work is correctly saved and accessible in a timely manner.
  • Proactively clarifying instructions with legal departments and requestors where instructions or deadlines are unclear.
  • Proactively sharing information and documenting best practice and fixes.
  • Showing initiative when responding to queries and actively seeking solutions to problems.
  • Sharing knowledge and providing guidance to internal clients regarding the best approach to take to achieve the desired outcome.
  • Being flexible in meeting the needs of the team and the business e.g. occasional shift changes (with reasonable notice) to accommodate team meetings, training sessions and client requirements etc.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the post.


What you will need:


  • Experience of working in a similar role within the legal sector.
  • Knowledge of AML rules and KYC (know your client) requirements for law firms.
  • Experience of on-boarding international clients, both companies and individuals is desirable.
  • Experience in complex company structures and interpretation of this is desirable.
  • Efficient and accurate typing skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a keen eye for presentation.
  • Advanced IT skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience of using document, case and practice management systems.
  • Effective communicator, able to build and maintain professional relationships with colleagues.
