Job Description

Advanced Innovative Manufacturing (AIM) is seeking a highly skilled Lead CNC Machinist & CAD/CAM Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with industry-leading CAM software and a strong background in operating and managing CNC milling, lathe, EDM, and CMM machines. Experience with Edgecam is advantageous but not mandatory. This role is critical to ensuring the precision and efficiency of our manufacturing processes, and will work directly under the guidance of our General Manager to meet the company’s strategic and operational goals. AIM is committed to integrating Industry 4.0 technologies and achieving AS9100 certification, positioning ourselves as a leader in advanced manufacturing solutions for the automotive and aerospace sectors.


Responsibilities:

  • CNC Programming and Operation: Develop and optimise CNC programs using industry-leading CAM software for various machining operations, ensuring precision and efficiency. Operate CNC milling, lathe, EDM, and CMM machines to produce high-quality components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Setup and Maintenance: Set up CNC machines, including selecting and installing cutting tools, fixtures, and materials. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure machines operate at peak performance.
  • Quality Control: Inspect finished products for accuracy and quality, making necessary adjustments to meet stringent specifications and industry standards. Document and report any discrepancies or quality issues to maintain high standards.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously assess and improve machining processes to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and incorporate lean manufacturing principles. Participate in cross-functional teams to implement Industry 4.0 technologies, such as IoT devices and data analytics, to optimise production processes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other team members to ensure alignment with production schedules and seamless CAD/CAM operations integration.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of programming, setup instructions, and maintenance activities. Contribute to the documentation required for AS9100 certification, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.
  • Industry 4.0 Integration: Assist in implementing advanced digital technologies to enhance manufacturing capabilities and data-driven decision-making. Utilise software-driven controls and automated systems to improve operational efficiency and production quality.


Professional Skills and Qualifications:

  • CAM Software Experience: Proficiency in using industry-leading CAM software to create and optimise CNC programs. Experience with Edgecam is a plus.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of CNC machining operations, tooling, and materials, including milling, lathe, EDM, and CMM machines.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve machining issues effectively.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of precision and attention to detail in all aspects of machining work.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies to keep up with industry advancements.
  • Industry Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with AS9100 certification requirements and experience in maintaining high-quality standards is a plus.
  • Formal Qualification: Completion of a formal apprenticeship in machining or a related field, or equivalent vocational training and qualifications.


Hours and Environment

  • Thirty-eight hours a week, Monday to Thursday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm (with a 30-minute lunch break).
  • Fridays, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
  • Standard 21 days of annual leave plus statutory bank holidays.
