Background to the Appointment

Wayland Additive is a cutting-edge additive manufacturing company focused on developing advanced metal 3D printing technologies. Our innovative and patented NeuBeam process enables the production of complex metal parts, particularly in high performing super materials. As we continue to expand our presence in the industry, we are seeking a talented Commercial Applications Engineer to join our dynamic team.

The Job

As a Commercial Applications Engineer at Wayland Additive, based in Huddersfield, UK, you will play a key role in bridging the gap between our groundbreaking NeuBeam technology and the unique needs of our diverse clientele. You will work closely with customers to understand their specific requirements, provide technical expertise, and ensure the successful integration of our additive manufacturing solutions into their applications.

While appropriate experience is highly desirable, even more important is an aptitude and mindset for innovation; learning and developing new techniques; and a willingness to collaborate closely both with customers and colleagues to find solutions to technical challenges.

  1. Customer Engagement: Collaborate with potential and existing clients to understand their business needs and technical requirements for additive manufacturing.
  2. Technical Expertise: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers, providing insights into the capabilities and benefits of Wayland Additive's NeuBeam technology.
  3. Material Optimisation: Work closely with customers to enhance and optimise materials for the NeuBeam process, focusing on the development of process parameters to enable the production of new materials.
  4. CAD Experience: Utilize your proficiency in CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software for editing and repairing 3D models. Additionally, produce exhibition parts for industry events.
  5. Hands-On Operations: Engage in hands-on responsibilities, including setting up Wayland's Calibur 3 Machine for build jobs, and performing maintenance and repairs on Wayland’s fleet of machines.
  6. Qualification: Leverage your experience in material qualification to assess and qualify materials produced by the Calibur 3 system.
  7. Benchmark Production: Produce benchmarks for potential customers, showcasing the capabilities of Wayland Additive's technology. This includes proficiency in build file preparation using additive manufacturing software such as Netfabb and Magics.
  8. Training and Support: Provide training sessions and technical support to clients, helping them effectively implement and utilize Wayland Additive's technology in their operations.
  9. Problem Solving: Address and resolve technical challenges or issues faced by customers during the integration and utilization of NeuBeam technology.
  10. Collaboration: Liaise with internal teams, including engineering, sales, service, and marketing, to communicate customer feedback, contribute to product development, and support the overall growth of Wayland Additive.
  11. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of customer interactions and technical processes.

Skills / Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Material Science, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred. Equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
  2. Proven experience in additive manufacturing, preferably with a focus on metal 3D printing technologies. Experience in electron beam additive manufacturing is desirable.
  3. Strong technical aptitude and the ability to understand and communicate complex engineering concepts to diverse audiences.
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients.
  5. Proficient in CAD software for editing and repairing 3D models, as well as producing exhibition parts for industry events.
  6. Experience in the development of process parameters to enable the production of new materials in additive manufacturing.
