2-3 months contract with a Local Authority Job Summary: Commercial Waste Sales Officers will be responsible for obtaining new commercial waste customers (and other cross sell products) in the borough of Thurrock, this role will also have responsibility for customer retention of existing customers. To advise business owners of their responsibilities in relation to the storage and disposal of commercial waste/recycling and obtain new business where possible in accordance with the current pricing structure. To achieve realistic revenues objectives through strategic sales and customer retention, to liaise with existing and new customers to provide advice and services where required.    To work closely with the Contracts & Business Development Manager s/he will contribute to the continuous improvement of the Commercial Waste Services and wider Environment portfolio. Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample): To make a major contribution to the development of the commercial waste service through various forms of communication including interaction with businesses customers face to face, assist in promotional campaigns and to follow controls to ensure the effective running of the Commercial Waste Department. To be accountable to the Contracts & Business Development Manager for achieving agreed sales objectives, promotions and marketing, service outputs, and personal key performance indicators. To model the attitudes and behaviours as set out in the Councils Code of Conduct To represent the Council in a professional manner when interacting with clients while delivering Commercial Waste services.   To develop and implement initiatives that will add value to the services being delivered by the Commercial Waste Service. To assist and implement marketing and operational strategies to maximise the customer base against competition from private competitors.   To ensure that the service operates within the Council’s regulatory framework including financial and human resource standards.    To develop a borough-wide Commercial Waste service in a manner which reflects the professional image of the service, and the Council. To provide advice and guidance in the interpretation of legislation affecting businesses and to provide general advice and guidance to customers and local businesses, council officers, elected Members on relevant matters. To be responsible for pricing special collections and scheduling such work in accordance with agreed pricing structures and operational methods. In developing relations with businesses within your allocated Sales Territory to identify and secure cross sell opportunities for other products and services provided by the Council. To be responsible for completion of service contracts, collecting payments for special collections and existing debts and ensuring that such payments are managed in accordance with established financial controls. To be fully aware of hazardous waste and means of disposal as regards to the Environmental Protection Act (EPA.)     In liaison with Enforcement Officers to regularly audit the Commercial Waste portfolio to ensure the crews are only collecting from credited customers and specified volumes of waste. To liaise with the client in regard of container stock/repairs. To liaise with commercial waste admin and operations in the delivery and removal of containers when required. To ensure that all customers are aware of the duty of care documentation. To assist in the stock control of bins to Commercial Waste customers and domestic properties and provide information on overall stock To work with the business support team and with regards to sales, debt collection, monitoring, working with enforcement where appropriate signing and amending contracts, special collections and any trade waste infringements.     To support the Contracts & Business Development Manager with the monitoring and reporting of Commercial Waste infringements in respect of the EPA. To assist the enforcement team where necessary by providing information and alerting enforcement to any commercial waste infringements which are identified or reported. To liaise with operations managers and crews with regards to the Commercial Waste portfolio. To ensure service delivery standards are achieved liaising with operations where required. To fully investigate complaints and conduct “follow through” actions to deal with causes of genuine complaints. Any other duties, commensurate with the post and grade which may be allocated from, time to time. To use and assist others in the use of information technology systems to carry out duties in the most efficient and effective manner. To undertake training and constructively take part in meetings, supervision, seminars and other events designed to improve communication and assist with the effective development of the post and post holder. To carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with the council’s commitment to customer service excellence and ensure compliance with the customer care standards.
