Communications Manager

  • Contract Duration: Minimum estimated 4 months
  • Location: Westminster, London (Blended working with remote opportunities)
  • Work Pattern: Full-time, 36 hours per week between the hours of 8am to 7pm, flexibility is required.
  • Day rate: £349,PAYE, £450, Umbrella
  • Vetting Level: Counter Terrorism Clearance (CTC) will be sought if successful, this can take between 3-6 months.

We are seeking a Communications Manager to play a pivotal role in the success of the Metropolitan Police Service by delivering exceptional external communications. This role is integral to our mission of keeping the public safe and requires a professional who can manage both proactive and reactive media strategies in a fast-paced environment.

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Deliver external communications supporting the priorities set out in the ‘A New Met for London’ plan.
  • Be part of a team providing a 24/7 service, handling media inquiries, and engaging across digital channels.
  • Support spontaneous and planned events with communication strategies.
  • Provide rapid response service to the MPS, delivering response and rebuttal across digital channels.
  • Develop and implement media strategies, managing communications for high-profile issues.
  • Work at pace under deadline pressure, ensuring consistent messaging and effective communication.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven track record in a busy media operation with the ability to handle multiple reactive demands.
  • Strong understanding of media and channel monitoring, including digital tools.
  • Experience in delivering high-quality, fast-time rebuttal on digital channels.
  • Strong coordination skills and experience in liaising with operational colleagues in a large organisation.
  • Experience in leading proactive media planning and creative media campaigns.
  • Practical understanding of using data and insight to drive communications.
  • Experience in providing advice to senior figures on complex issues.
  • Ability to produce clear and effective communication materials from complex information.
  • Experience in shaping and delivering digital content across a range of channels.
