  • Write, edit and distribute press releases and pitches about research papers and other content, which are clear and broadly accessible while remaining scientifically accurate and hype-free
  • Create short videos for social media showcasing our Open Access research

  • Support the Senior Communications Manager in reactive communications relating to published content
  • Support the Journals and Editorial Comms team across all activity and act as a “go to” person for key stakeholders
  • Build relationships with key science, health, and environment journalists and institutional press officers from around the globe and respond in a timely fashion to a wide range of phone and email queries from these stakeholders, authors and others
  • Coordinate with editorial and production colleagues to track papers during production and ensure press releases are ready in time to meet often tight deadlines
  • Support the running of a proactive and reactive press office function, in particular by contributing to daily news monitoring, conducting background research, producing coverage information, maintaining media lists, and data entry as required
  • Support with the organisation and running of internal and external Springer Nature events and ensure the team events / planning calendar is updated
  • Support the Springer Nature Journals and Editorial communications team with special projects as they arise and help to develop and implement new processes and systems

Qualifications, Skills, Experience

  • Preferably educated to a degree level, in a science-related subject or equivalent experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience of writing or editing scientific press releases
  • Experience in a science press office or research communications environment / experience or knowledge of publishing; experience of issues management would also be beneficial
