Within Children's Services, we are looking to employ enthusiastic, motivated, forward thinking Staff Nurses, to work within the Health Visiting Team within the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale (HMR) area .

We work in partnership with the local authority and health services on a challenging and rewarding caseload and are piloting new and innovative ways of working. We strongly encourage creativity and new ideas.

Main duties of the job

Community Staff nurses work within a Health Visiting team across locally defined areas and support the service across HMR, to provide a safe service for all preschool children and their families.

The post holder will be based within a team of Health Visitors and skill-mix staff. You will be providing universal and enhanced Health Visiting services to children and families from all cultural diversities on the case load. You will have the opportunity to develop skills in public health, child development and multi-agency working focusing on the diverse communities within HMR.

You will have an ability and willingness to contribute effectively to the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme. You should also have evidence of recent professional development and an understanding of Community Practice and Public Health Issues.

There is a robust preceptorship and induction programme.

You will be supported in your development through line management, My Time appraisals and Supervision.

You will have the opportunity to develop skills in public health, child development and multi-agency working focusing on the diverse communities within Rochdale.

Staff nurses who join the team will be supported to apply for the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting) if they wish .

Job responsibilities

As a mener of the team you will be responsible for the assessment of child & family health and development within the Healthy Child Programme, as well as the implementation & evaluation of other packages of care.

You will provide packages of care to individuals, families and groups within the community following delegation from the Health Visitor and Team lead.

As a member of the team you will be required to support in the co-ordination and delivery of client contacts, striving to achieve the activity targets specified within the commissioned Community Contract.

As a member of the team, you will ensure that effective communication is maintained at all times and provide support for junior staff.

You will play a key role in the supervision and assessment of pre and post basic learners and unregistered staff providing a teaching role and acting as named mentor when required.

You will have an ability and willingness to contribute effectively to the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme. You should also have evidence of recent professional development and an understanding of Community Practice and Public Health Issues.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

  • V100/V150 Non Medical Prescriber


Experience and Knowledge

  • Good awareness of the public health agenda which is based on research evidence
  • Insight into the role of a Community Nurse within the Health Visiting Service
  • Experience of delivering public health messages and health promotion
  • Experience of working with children and families
  • Evidence of relevant post qualification study and CPD


Desirable

  • Evidence of recent Community Experience
  • Awareness of the Healthy Child programme
