Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior CNC Programmer to join their growing Engineering team. This pivotal role ensures that the provision of suitable, correct, and timely programs minimizes machine set-up time and maximizes process run time, essential for effective shift operations. The Senior CNC Programmer will be tasked with the efficient production and maintenance of both new and existing programs.



The Role



The Senior CNC Programmer will dedicate a significant portion of their time to hands-on development and implementation of CNC machine tool programs across various manufacturing processes. Their engineering and manufacturing expertise will facilitate the smooth introduction and integration of new products into production.



Duties



  • Create, implement, and maintain programs for various manufacturing processes using CAM packages such as SmartCAM and GibbsCAM.
  • Proficiently interrogate models using Creo (ProEngineer) to produce programs for complex machined profiles on milling, turning, and turn/mill machines.
  • Develop programs and methodologies for various manufacturing processes with bespoke software.
  • Ensure all routings are accurate, simple to understand, up-to-date, and cost-effective.
  • Estimate product costs and compile machining times for new work quotes.
  • Support Engineering activities as needed.



Skills and Abilities



  • Understand various machine and process protocols (e.g., Fanuc, Okuma, Mazak, Mitsubishi).
  • Validate and productively modify generated software programs as part of continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate extensive engineering knowledge from primary forming processes to end product realisation.



Experience



  • Time served engineer.
  • Significant post-apprenticeship experience in an engineering production/manufacturing role.
  • Proven experience using computers and software packages to generate CNC programs.
  • Excellent understanding of engineering drawings, geometrical tolerancing, and dimensioning.
  • Proficiency in selecting engineering tooling required for component manufacture.

  • Demonstrates a depth of engineering knowledge, emphasising quality, attention to detail, and a ‘right first time’ approach.
  • Adheres to program standards and understands how their role adds value to the company by following company policies and procedures.
  • Background in multi-axis machining is beneficial.
  • Has the foresight to drive continuous improvement and effectively communicate these changes to others.
