We have an exciting opportunity for a Construction Materials Technician to join the Cornish Lime team at our site in Bodmin, Cornwall. This will be on a full-time, 12 month contract to cover maternity leave with the possibility of a continued or renewed contract at the end of the period.
Working closely with our Technical Manager, you will assist in the day-to-day running of the physical sciences laboratory and contribute to the research and development of lime-based products, including lime mortars, renders and plasters for conservation and new build construction. Whether you’re just beginning your career or are an experienced Technician seeking a change, this role is available to professionals with varying levels of experience. Comprehensive in-house training and development is provided for this role with long-term career progression support.
As part of a diverse and hands-on role, your duties may include work in the laboratory, manufacturing plant, or office, with frequent handling of 25kg bags and mixing of materials.
A quick look at the role:
· Assist in the day-to-day running of the laboratory.
· Contribute to product ideation and market research with desk-based and lab-based research.
· Collaborate with the Technical Manager to plan, schedule and implement product development projects and client work.
· Testing and classification of products, binders, sands & aggregates.
· Analyse and interpret test data and produce detailed and accurate reports.
· QA of manufactured products.
· Assist with preparing and maintaining product technical and safety data sheets and other documentation as required.
· Collaborate with architects, specifiers and conservators to create custom materials for specific applications.
· Matching of historic samples with small-scale sample production.
· Support the General Manager and other team members in technical sales support.
· Maintain and follow site practices, quality procedures and health and safety requirements.

· Degree-level qualification is preferred in sciences or geosciences. Alternatively college level qualifications may suit in maths, chemistry and/or physics.
· Knowledge of chemistry or other physical sciences.
· Experience in a laboratory environment.
· Understanding of manufacturing production and processes.
· Practical trowel skills (hands-on where required).
· Knowledge of building conservation.
