We are currently seeking to appoint a self employed Construction Site Manager under a short term contract (minimum of six months with likely extension to 12 months). The project is circa 65MWp, connected off site at 132kV, utilises a fixed mounting structure and is located near Donington in Lincolnshire. Applicants within commuting distance are preferred.


Areas of Responsibilities

  • Site Manage the project. Oversee all site activities and manage subcontractors involved in the construction of a ground-mounted solar project (including the Independent Connection Provider).
  • Manage Health and Safety measures on site, ensuring compliance with CDM, HSAWA, Electricity at Work, Management Regulations (as a minimum).
  • Ensure a positive H&S culture on site.
  • Support European Energy Construction Ltd in meeting its duties as the ‘Principal Contractor’ under the CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Maintain and collate all QHSE records onsite and ensure the Construction Phase Plan, Environmental Management Plan, Emergency Response Plan, Traffic Management Plan, and Site Inductions are in place, suitably developed and reviewed. Support their ongoing update for each phase of the construction project.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, near-misses and quality non-conformances and provide written reports.
  • Carry out site inductions, toolbox talks, safety walks and inspections and issue/control permits for all high-risk activities.
  • Retain and collate records, test results, certificates that may be required for the Health and Safety File
  • Liaison with landowners, neighbours, the community and support the Communication Manager in their role.
  • Ensure effective implementation and adherence / compliance with the project Construction Phase Plan, Environmental Management Plan and Emergency Response Plan, etc.
  • Provide reports on a Daily; Weekly; and Monthly basis.
  • Chair regular site performance / construction review meetings, take minutes and issue / follow up on actions allocated.
  • Oversee the construction of temporary tracks, concrete equipment bases, landscaping, drainage, new culverts, fencing, trenching/cable ducting, and PV solar mounting systems.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination of key project activities.
  • Monitor the overall progress against the construction program.
  • Generate and distribute comprehensive site progress reports to the Construction and Project Manager.
  • Collaborate with the procurement and logistics team.
  • Ensure compliance with the project permits and conditions stated.
  • Maintain precise on-site records of goods received and delivery notes.
  • Efficiently manage waste transfer operations and uphold accurate disposal and separation records.
  • Collaborate within cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, contractors, and the risk team, to maintain the highest standards of H&S and Quality on the project.


Professional Qualifications

  • Site Manager Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) qualified (with current CITB Site Safety Plus certificate).
  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card holder.
  • NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction (UK) and / or IOSH Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Site Managers.
  • First Aid at Work (FAW) Level 3 (3 day) trained, issued by a training organisation approved by HSE.
  • Valid UK driving license.
  • Previous experience as Site Manager on utility scale solar PV projects (20MW+, 132kV connections) is highly desirable.


Personal Skills

  • Strong experience in the UK construction industry, knowledge of engineering standards and contracting arrangements.
  • You are fluent in English, both verbally and in writing.
