Job Title: Consultant Finance Manager

Company Overview: A leading consultancy firm is seeking a highly skilled Consultant Finance Director to join their dynamic team. The company partners with business owners and entrepreneurs, providing comprehensive financial strategies that support both business and personal wealth management. While ensuring that accounting and tax compliance are meticulously handled, the primary focus is on delivering expert advice and critical business process support to drive value and growth.

Role Overview: The Consultant Finance Director is a senior client-facing position within the firm’s Financial Function service offering. This role is crucial in designing, building, and managing end-to-end financial functions for a diverse portfolio of clients. The role encompasses three key areas: Client Delivery, Client Management, and Business Development.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Delivery:

  • Serve as a 'Client Leader' on Finance Function and related consulting engagements, assuming the role of Consultant Finance Director.
  • Design and manage complex finance systems and processes for SME clients, including finance functions, business modeling, management reporting, cash flow management, and compliance.
  • Lead project teams composed of Accountants, Financial Controllers, and Business Analysts, overseeing tasks from transaction processing to the creation of complex management information (MI) dashboards.
  • Create and present commercially relevant MI, including dashboards, board packs, and business models, providing clients with tactical and strategic business insights.
  • Analyze and solve complex business problems presented by clients, designing tailored solutions.
  • Oversee compliance routines such as Year End Reporting, Corporation Tax, VAT, and Payroll.
  • Review, critique, and enhance the work of other team members, with a focus on accounting, business modeling, and data analysis.
  • Produce high-quality presentations and data visualizations for client meetings.

Client Management:

  • Act as the primary senior contact for an assigned portfolio of clients, managing and nurturing relationships.
  • Address and resolve delivery issues swiftly, leveraging support from across the firm and senior partners as needed.
  • Manage the commercial aspects of client relationships, including fee management, billing, and debtor issues.

Business Development:

  • Identify opportunities to expand services and add value to existing client relationships, collaborating with various teams across the firm.
  • Contribute to new client pitches and general business development activities, helping to grow the firm’s client base and service offerings.

Candidate Profile:

Education & Qualifications:

  • Professional accounting or finance qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CFA, etc.).
  • University degree preferred, though extensive experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in Xero and familiarity with the SME finance software ecosystem that integrates with Xero.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and Google Sheets, including pivot tables, lookups, logic formulas, and advanced charting.
  • Expertise in building business models, particularly cash flow forecasts.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, with experience in creating professional reports and slide decks for boardroom presentations.
  • Exceptional time management and project management skills, capable of handling complex projects and high task loads.
  • Solid understanding of commercial and operational aspects of business management.
  • Knowledge of core business taxes and compliance requirements, including VAT, Corporation Tax, and Payroll.
  • Strong grasp of accounting principles, particularly in managing P&L and Balance Sheets.
  • Experience with data analytics and dashboard platforms like Power BI or Google Data Studio is a plus.

Experience:

  • Ideally started their career and qualified within a large national firm or reputable boutique firm.
  • 3+ years of post-qualification experience, with exposure to roles beyond compliance and audit, such as consulting, FP&A, or corporate finance.
  • Experience working with SME or entrepreneur-led businesses is highly desirable.
