Job Description

The Department of Older People's services at the Royal London Hospital, is undergoing an exciting period of growth and expansion. We are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic individuals to join our team of geriatricians.

We are a department who are dedicated and committed to our older patients and strive to ensure that that our patients receive the best possible care. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about geriatric medicine and are innovative and motivated to develop new services,

The post holder has the opportunity of working in our department which is a part of a world renowned busy inner city London teaching hospital. There are opportunities for the successful recipient to develop a subspeciality of their interest and they will be encouraged and supported in doing so.

Main duties of the job

As a teaching hospital we welcome individuals who are interested in teaching and research and the post holder will be encouraged and supported in developing these interests.

We are looking for individuals who have excellent team working and communication skills , who are able to work well with the multidisciplinary team and with other specialities within the organisation.

Applicants should hold full GMC registration and a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Internal Medicine (GIM) and Geriatric Medicine, or be eligible for entry to the Specialist Register within six months of the interview date.

Individuals who demonstrate a commitment to service development, education and training or other academic achievement will be welcomed.

This is a full time post but we are happy to consider those who wish to work less than full time in this role.

Qualifications
Essential

  • MRCP or Equivalent Specialist qualification
  • Full GMC Registration with license to practice
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of date of advisory appointments committee
  • Relevant CCT in Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine or equivalent (CESR or European Community Rights if GMC registered (or CCT date within 6 months of date of advisory appointments committee)
Desirable
  • Higher Research Degree
  • Higher teaching degree
Clinical Experience
Essential
  • Higher specialist training in Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine
  • Broad experience in Geriatric Medicine and G(I)M
  • ALS Certificate
Desirable
  • Prior experience of developing, delivering services in geriatric medicine
Knowledge
Essential
  • Detailed knowledge of Older People Services and G(I)M and of the specialist skills required for this post
  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patients
  • Understanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to life-long learning
  • Experience of supervising medical staff
  • Attendance on management or leadership course
