Consultant Lead for inpatient psychology services

We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated and experienced Clinical or Forensic Psychologist to join our team of psychologists, trainees and assistant psychologists offering psychological services to forensic service users across NCL. The right candidate will have significant experience of working in secure services and a record of inspirational leadership. They will be involved in shaping and developing the service as well as ensuring the systematic provision and governance of high-quality psychological assessment and therapies. They will hold an overview of the service and act as a specialist resource and source of advice.The post holder will work closely with the head of therapies, consultant lead for psychology in the community, senior service managers and the psychology pathway leads to develop and ensure provision.The North London Forensic Service places a high value on the provision of trauma informed care across the service and conducts a range of QI and research projects to help our learning and processes. We are looking for someone who will have a strong track record of delivering services within forensic mental health and of supporting staff to deliver excellent care. Main duties of the job
The post holder will work with the head of therapies, consultant lead for community services and psychology pathway leads to provide strategic oversight and professional leadership and management of the inpatient and community psychology provision at NLFS. The postholder will support the pathway leads to ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality psychological therapies service. The post holder will be involved in recruitment, retention, management, supervision and training of staff and ensuring that quality and performance outcomes are met.This post requires a high level of written and verbal communication skills as well as an ability to engage well with stakeholders including commissioners, staff, patients, and their families, often conveying complex or sensitive information.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996). OR Doctoral or Masters level training in forensic psychology with full competencies completed.
- Registration with HCPC.
Desirable
- Further training in a specialized area of psychological practice through formal postdoctoral training OR a combination of specialist short courses, together with an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice.
- Completion of a clinical supervision training (short course) sufficient to be able to supervise doctoral trainees.
EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Extensive experience of working as a qualified clinical/ forensic psychologist including substantial recent post qualification experience in forensic mental health services.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity across a range of care settings, which can include outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings, including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of emotive and distressing problems and where there is a history of violence.
- Experience of teaching and training. Experience of the supervision of qualified psychology staff.
Desirable
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
- Experience of representing the profession in local policy fora.
- Experience of multiprofessional management of teams or services within the designated specialty
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Essential
- Doctoral (or equivalent) level knowledge of psychological theory and practice including highly developed knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and research design and methodologies.
- High level skill in the theory and practice of specialized psychological therapies in working with mentally disordered offenders and problem behaviours.
- Highly developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
Desirable
- Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialized psychological therapies in specific groups (e.g. personality disorders, dual diagnosis etc.)
