Consultant / Senior Consultant – Product Design Engineer, London

We need a talented and dynamic individual with the broad design, communication and self-management qualities leading to innovative solutions and excellent client relations.

Summary

Leveraging your creativity, expertise and enthusiasm for design and engineering, you will collaborate with
our team to develop technically challenging and innovative products from early ideas to production.

You will be confident in balancing technical functionality with usability and aesthetics, have an appreciation
of engineering science and mechanics, have excellent CAD skills and a good understanding of manufacture
and materials. Working in industry or consultancy, you might already be familiar managing projects, and after
training and with support from senior staff, you will manage PDD projects, taking responsibility for
commercial success alongside the quality of technical design.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Create inventive, appropriate and practical technical concepts and assess their feasibility
  • Research, source and specify applicable technologies, suppliers, materials and processes
  • Develop concepts into reliable and robust solutions; including 3D CAD modelling, basic engineering hand
    calcs, risk analysis and managing prototypes for testing
  • Balance the inputs from human sciences, industrial design and mechanical engineers to deliver
    appropriate and meaningful design solutions
  • Detail and specify design for manufacture; including engineering drawings, tolerances and specifications
  • Create and control documents including presentations, reports and schedules
  • Communicate and present work to clients
  • Operate within the PDD quality system and wider regulatory framework
  • Interpret briefs, prepare proposals, plans and requirements specifications
  • Manage project time and cost, lead and co-ordinate the team and liaise with clients and subcontractors

Requirements

We are looking for a talented and dynamic individual with the broad design, communication and selfmanagement
qualities leading to innovative solutions and excellent client relations.

Minimum requirements include:

  • 1st or 2:1 Bachelor’s degree in Product Design Engineering or equivalent
  • Proficient in 3D CAD modelling (Solidworks) with strong surfacing ability
  • Good sketching ability (to convey technical concepts)
  • Familiar with materials and processes for moulding, casting, machining and fabrication
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
  • Some experience of managing projects and the work of others.

Ideally you also have experience in the following areas:

Experience in the application of first principle engineering calculation to inform design decisions
Workshop skills and the ability to quickly mock-up and test ideas
Projects with significant quality & regulatory requirements (eg medical devices)
Arduino coding
