Job Overview

A role for an Experienced CNC machinist who has knowledge in developing machining processes for parts that make up an innovative new design. The successful candidate will be responsible for the setting and operation of Hurco CNC 5 axis machining centres and CNC lathes. You will be working closely with the engineering team, consultants and other sub-contractors to communicate and provide feedback of machining outputs, reporting where there are issues and conversely where the process is robust.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties

You will be responsible for proving out programs on a 5 Axis Hurco CNC machining centre and a Hurco CNC lathe. Communicating with Actuation Lab’s R&D department to identify any issues with machining processes, identify potential improvements and methods of manufacture. Duties will include:

·        Planning machining by studying requirements, engineering drawings, CAD files and materials.

·        Load CAM programs on machines.

·        Ensure program to be used is the correct revision.

·        Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points.

·        Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting chucks, tools, and attachments.

·        Inspection to first off part using CMM and manual measuring devices to verify parts are within drawing tolerances and documents the results. Carry out random check during manufacture to ensure compliance of parts machined.

·        Maintain specifications by observing all aspects of the machining process over all operations.

·        Monitor raw material inventory by checking stock to determine the amount available, anticipated stock, and identifying when orders need placing.

·        Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.

·        Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.

·        Maintain continuity with engineering design by documenting and communicating actions.

·        Documents actions by completing production and quality logs as and when required.


CNC Operator Qualifications and Skills

·        Ability to set and operate CNC lathes and milling machines including program prove outs.

·        Excellent computer and technical skills

·        Good attention to detail

·        Strong team player

·        Must be self-motivated.


Hours and Benefits

An attractive package is available for the successful candidate. Hours of work are negotiable between 35 and 40 hours per week but shall be between 8am and 6pm.


Minimum Qualifications 


A good standard of secondary education.

A recognised engineering apprenticeship or minimum 3 years experience of CNC machining. A recognised apprenticeship along with more than five years experience would be preferable.
