Job Description

What if you could work with remarkable people on extraordinary things? What if the end result was something a little bit special? What if your role was mission critical?

For nearly 70 years, AWE has been at the forefront of nuclear weapons research and development. We have a critical mission: to provide the warheads for the UK’s ultimate deterrent – Trident. We also use our unique skills to provide wider UK government with counter-terrorism and nuclear threat reduction solutions.

It takes a special sort of person to work at AWE. What if that person was you?

We need an AWEsome Cost Engineer to join our Nuclear Threat Reduction team at AWE Nuclear Security Technologies.

Location: Our offices are based in Berkshire, RG7 4PR between Reading and Basingstoke with onsite parking.

Salary Range: £38,140 to £48,000

What’s exciting is:

Each day is different, you’ll never be bored. You’ll work with different and very interesting people across the organisation and what you do every day will make a difference to keeping our nation safe.

What does a typical day for a Cost Engineer at AWE look like?

  • Preparing, monitoring and controlling cost forecasts and budgets for specified projects, including change control
  • Supporting system interrogation and performance measurement of actual expenditure and performance, including accruals where necessary
  • Providing input to project cost reports, including trend analysis and early warnings as necessary
  • Supporting SPI and CPI variance analysis and root cause analysis, including input to the narrative
  • Creating Project Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) and assisting the preparation of cost studies utilising historical data
  • Supporting trended data to assist Project Managers based on performance to date
  • Seeking emerging cost trends to aid recommendations
  • Reviewing manpower productivity and time bookings to projects including resource usage vs. planned, identify resource constraints

Although it is essential that you have Cost Engineering experience within a Project Controls function, you may not tick every box and that is fine with us. Attracting the right people is just as important as having all of the technical experience in every aspect of our Cost engineering roles so we’d still love to hear from you.
