To include assisting with costs budgeting, preparation of costs claims, costs negotiations; advocacy at costs hearings, and providing general costs advice, guidance, and assistance. Main duties and responsibilities:Caseloads and collaborationEnsure the highest quality of costs recovery service is always providedSupporting fee-earners with client costs estimates and budgetingAdvice on fee arrangements with clientsAdvice to fee earners on levels and prospects of costs recoveryProvide other technical costs guidanceManage a costs caseload of claimant costs filesProvide update reports on caseloads and progressBuild and maintain good working relationships with the fee earners, the finance and accounts teams, and all other staffDocument preparationBudgets (Precedent H/T)Statements of Costs (N260) for summary assessmentElectronic Bills of Costs (Precedent S)Prepare documents for provisional and detailed assessment proceedingsDraft Points of Dispute and RepliesHearings and settlementAttend Costs Management HearingsAttend Interlocutory Costs HearingsAttend Detailed Assessment HearingsNegotiate and settle claims for costs, maximising costs recoveryProfessional developmentActively keep up to date with developments on all areas of costs lawAttend necessary training, seminars, and eventsPersonal SpecificationEssentialGenuine interest to work with a leading claimant law firm and passionate about providing access to justice to allMinimum 4 years’ experience of working in civil litigation costs recoveryKnowledge of funding agreements and associated rules and case lawExperience of drafting bills and dealing with negotiations, costs proceedings and costs advocacy, with minimal supervisionUp to date knowledge of Costs Assessment Guidance, Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) and legislationExcellent negotiation and influencing skillsExcellent analytical skills and attention to detailExcellent communication skills (verbal and written)Professional approach, able to deal with fee-earners, clients, other professionals and court servicesCan work both independently, and as part of a teamAbility to prioritise and manage multiple cases to strict deadlinesExperienced user of IT packages ( Costsmaster, Outlook, Word and Excel) DesirableKnowledge of Legal Aid Costs/ClaimsExperience of using case management systemsExperience of handling own costs caseloads from start to finishExperience of working in house within a law firmProfessionally qualified or working towards a qualification , Costs Lawyer, Solicitor or Legal Executive
