Job Description

Design in Every Dimension...

Nexus Studios is an award-winning global studio in film and experience design. Our world-class talent creates groundbreaking work for entertainment, music, sports, and brands. Bringing storytelling and design across every dimension, our output includes Oscar-nominated and BAFTA-winning shorts, Cannes Grand Prix-winning commercials, Emmy Award-winning feature films and ground-breaking spatial computing experiences, alongside Nexus Design Studio, an offer dedicated to motion design.

The Creative Director will drive design-led work for high profile brands. You will work closely with a producer and/or EP to oversee ideation and creative design treatments for branded short form content and then oversee a team to execute. With a Multidisciplinary approach, you will lead the design studio department, influencing design across experience design, as well as its own motion design film output.

You are someone who enjoys collaborating with other artists and has an ability to solve tricky design briefs with playful solutions that emotionally resonate. You will be hands-on in design and direction as required but also successfully oversee growing teams. You will enjoy forging a strong relationship with the client and building a deep understanding of the brand.

In this client-facing role you will help to shape and evolve Nexus Design Studio as a department within Nexus Studios with a shared team, culture, and goals. To do this, we would expect you to work on-site at our studio in Shoreditch for at least 3 days per week.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee and develop creative and motion design solutions for brands, social content and experience content (including AR/VR/XR). This will at times require a 24-48 hour topline creative response for LA briefs.
  • Be client facing; attending creative briefings, pitching concepts, and presenting work to clients. Promoting the Nexus Design Studio and Nexus.
  • Either creatively direct work yourself or oversee other people assigned to this role (see below). This will require you to manage several projects from start to finish at any one time, with varying levels of involvement (i.e. on a smaller project, a hybrid animation director/ operator may lead it but you will still oversee the work, and make sure it is hitting our creative standards). Where needed, strategise early on in the pitch process how to ensure a smooth handover to a project lead for the agency/client.
  • Sign off on projects before they are presented to the client - Ensure the quality of all deliverables is of the highest standard.
  • Work with producers to break down a budget, giving accurate time estimates and suggesting a suitable animation style that hits the brief.
  • Build an environment for your creative team to work in and oversee their ideas and projects- manage motion designers alongside the NDS producer.
  • Helping to curate a crew that meets the project needs.

This is an overarching CD role. Projects that come into NDS may require an alternate Creative Director to work on a specific project or might be more suited to a rostered Director. In this instance, you will work with the producer, ECD and Head of Resourcing to assign someone from the Nexus talent pool.

You will:

  • be an excellent communicator, briefing and translating requirements and feedback between client and the team
  • Have a flexible and can-do attitude, proactively looking at ways to improve creative processes and overall efficiency of the studio
  • be creative, ideas driven, continually curious and proactive, with a knowledge of, and fascination with, contemporary and emerging cultural and artistic trends
  • stay current on trends, new techniques, and best practices in motion and digital design, integrating those findings into projects
  • have a unique creative vision and point of view, demonstrated by a portfolio of outstanding motion graphics work
  • have experience delivering high quality creative with commercial acumen, working for brands in advertising, ideally on branded content
  • experience of developing successful responses to briefs, including style frames and writing treatments that win new business
  • have a track record of working closely with artists throughout the life of projects, ensuring they understand the goals and deadlines for their work and bringing them back on track when required
  • be experienced in the production of motion graphics and use 2D & 3D approaches to communicate a brand idea, concept, or story
