Job Description

As a Cross-Class Underwriter for the Middle Market team in Birmingham, the role involves leveraging comprehensive multi-line capabilities targeted at select industry verticals such as real estate, hospitality, financial institutions, professional services, technology, and life sciences. Collaboration with a network of retail brokers committed to long-term partnerships and a robust service proposition is essential.

The role's expectation is to contribute to building a profitable book of business within the parameters of the overall European business plan, in partnership with key UK broker partners.

Key responsibilities include:


- Prioritizing and evaluating new and renewal submissions to identify accounts with the highest profit potential, aligned with the business plan and corporate profit objectives.

- Pricing and analyzing coverage, structure, and exposures on individual risks.

- Setting appropriate terms and conditions according to the Company's underwriting strategy and guidelines to quote qualified risks.

- Participating in client/broker meetings and social events as applicable.

- Maintaining underwriting pricing and discipline to achieve profitability goals, adhering to underwriting guidelines, systems, and procedures.

- Growing the existing business portfolio by nurturing current relationships and engaging new prospective clients.

- Focusing on building strong customer relationships, balanced with a culture of risk mitigation and compliance. This includes proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification, escalation, and making sound risk decisions in line with the business unit's risk appetite, as well as conducting individual account underwriting audits as needed.

- Completing underwriting referral applications for risks beyond personal authority, seeking higher-level approval when necessary.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

- Cross-class underwriting experience in the middle market segment.

- A minimum of 3+ years of professional experience.
