This role is crucial for constructing the Development Data Fabric and developing GenAI use cases. You will collaborate with architects, engineers, data modelers, product owners, and other team members within Development Tech and R&D. Leveraging your deep understanding of machine learning, you will work on complex projects to create systems that maximizing productivity in R&D. In this role you will

  • Leadership and Collaboration:
    • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of data engineers, machine learning engineers, and Software Engineers.
    • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
    • Set clear team goals, delegate tasks, and ensure alignment with project objectives and deadlines.
    • Work with other teams to define DevOps and data platform practices to meet the requirements of clinical solutions.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Provide technical guidance in data architecture, machine learning model development, and AI implementation.
    • Ensure the quality and scalability of data pipelines, ML models, and AI systems.
    • Conduct PoCs of new technologies and help embed them in product teams.
    • Maintain best practices for engineering and architecture on our Confluence site.
  • Project Management:
    • Oversee planning, execution, and delivery of data and AI projects.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of AI solutions.
    • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
  • Innovation and Strategy:
    • Develop strategies for leveraging data and AI to solve business problems and create new opportunities.
    • Identify and prioritize AI use cases that drive business value.
    • Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Compliance and Standards:
    • Ensure technical delivery is fully compliant with GSK Security, Quality, and Regulatory standards.
    • Ensure the use of relevant R&D Tech/central services and collaborate with service partners in the identification and delivery of service improvements.
    • Pro-actively engage in experimentation and innovation to drive relentless improvement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate needs into technical requirements.
    • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Ensure alignment between business objectives and data/AI initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Proficient with at least 3 of the following skills and able to demonstrate knowledge and value in all:
    • AI/ML skills, including GenAI and Large Language Models.
    • Software development, architecture design & technology platforms/frameworks.
    • Data platforms and domain-driven design.
    • Agile, DevOps & automation (testing, build, deployment, CI/CD, etc.).
  • Proficiency in programming languages: Python (preferred), Java, R, C++, and JavaScript.
  • Understanding of machine learning and AI, including generative AI algorithms and data pre-processing techniques.
  • Expertise in generative models, developing domain-specific models, and fine-tuning foundation models like GPT-4.
  • Strong proficiency in AI frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
  • Strong understanding of NLP.
  • Familiarity with software development methodologies.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms, especially in Azure for AI deployment.
  • Ability to process and visualize data effectively.
  • Good understanding of software paradigms: domain-driven, procedural, data-driven, object-oriented, functional.
  • Familiarity with Python
  • Demonstrable depth in more than one area of software engineering and technology.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Subject matter expertise in clinical development.
  • Understanding of relevant technical and scientific domains to meet rapidly evolving R&D strategy and ambition.
  • Experience in applying AI/ML, data curation, virtualization, predictive modeling, workflow, and advanced visualization techniques to enable decision support across multiple products and assets.
  • Experience in agile software development and microservices using Kubernetes and Docker.
